coming soon --> known traits / lapteryx lore / FAQ
Lapteryx are an elusive, forest-dwelling species. Primarily carnivorous, they prey on smaller mammals, fish, and insects, and are excellent climbers and swimmers.
As highly intelligent and social creatures, they tend to live in large groups, which are governed by ancient customs and rituals. They have a strong distrust of strangers but become fiercely loyal once their friendship has been earned.
Lapteryx anatomy
Standing upright, Lapteryx usually measure around 100cm tall. They are normally bipedal but sometimes use four legs when greater balance is needed or when moving over long distances.
They are covered in soft, mink-like fur, which can be various colors and patterns. Feathers can grow anywhere on their bodies and are most commonly seen on their legs and tails.
All Lapteryx have an aura window, which is a patch of fur or skin through which their aura can be seen. The color of a Lapteryx's aura changes constantly to show its true feelings and, for that reason, the aura window is normally covered when in public to avoid embarrassment or offence. This aura window can be found anywhere on a Lapteryx's body.
Another noticeable characteristic are their large sickle claws, which they use for hunting. However, despite its fearsome appearance, they have never been known to hunt for fun, and the act of hunting is surrounded by many religious and cultural traditions and rituals.
Lapteryx DNA is relatively unstable, and the chances of new and exciting traits and mutations with each generation is high.
Lapteryx life cycle
The average lifespan of a Lapteryx is 300 years, although some have been known to survive for more than double that amount of time. Young Lapteryx, known as pups, reach maturity around age 20.
Lapteryx culture recognises many different genders and sexualities, and neither are a factor in Lapteryx reproduction.
Lapteryx eggs are small and pointed, and cared for equally by both parents in a nest. These nests are built high up in trees to avoid the gaze of larger predators, and the Lapteryx community often assists new and expectant parents by bringing them food and gifts. Litters are normally between 2-6 pups.
