You know, it is sad, Churchill actually wanted to start the first invasion of Europe against Germany by landing in Greece, since it was closer to the Balkan states and he hoped to deny the Russians the chance of overrunning and occupying eastern Europe. But he was overruled and the western allies went to Sicily instead Politics!!! Ergh!!!

Politics are to blame for several things, including perpetuating friction between peoples, I agree!

Greece and the whole derailing of the operations schedule with Operation Marita (which was to help the Duce occupy Greece before a complete shambles spilled over to the public profile of the entire Axis as opposed to just Italy) caused a domino effect that forced Hitler to make the same mistake Napoleon did with Russia and the invasion there.

Man, I can't quite imagine what it must have been like to grow up with such violence surrounding them. I truly feel sorry for these kids! They buck up and act brave, but I'm sure when they find time to be alone they cry - or get really angry with the world.

Yes, that is very true. Those cohorts of children who lived through the Occupation had many grizzly stories of cruelty and violence to narrate as adults. My maternal grandfather was one of those children.

As for when they grew up, they either became fierce protectors of any Right, or anxious adults seeking to ensure their own safety and well being, whatever that meant. Not one was left unaffected.

And considering the hardships that followed the second world war, it's safe to say that these kids that chose to be protectors clashed with power several times consecutively, and so did their own children.

And yes, I agree about the name. If Diomedes is lucky enough, he may live to grow into it.
