How can you get so detailed and such a smooth tone on your drawings. Mines look like chicken scratches everywhere.

How do you apply the pencil graphite with such smoothness? Because I use very, very smooth paper too and my pictures don't turn out like that. Hmmm... do you draw with tiny circles?
