Description
I would imagine cartoon characters date too. Maybe even appear on dating game shows, like this one. The female contestant is Gadget, from Disney's Rescue Rangers of a few years ago. I usually ask people to try to guess who the male contestants are. Two of them are easy, so easy I'll tell you rather than waste time. From left to right, they're The Brain (from Warner's Pinky and the Brain), and Fievel from Don Bluth's American Tail. Ah, but does anyone know the third? I have never yet met anyone who did. The third mouse is a pretty obscure one, but not hopelessly so. I'll give a clue: Walter Lantz.Related content

If I were her, I probably would. Of course, Space Mouse has a girlfriend, which would make it easier to ensure a date meant only dinner and a movie.

I knew about Space Mouse but not the girlfriend. Fievel is too young and Brain is too meglomaniacal. Perhaps there should be another session with Jerry, Roquefort, and Basil.

Jerry is a mute, not the best sort of guy to take on a date. I recall Little Roquefort, but not much about him. Basil is a rat, of course. There's Pixie and Dixie, but I think they must be gay lovers or something... possibly twins separated at birth, one raised in the South, where he picked up his cornpone accent.

Jerry was silent in the films except for "Anchors Away" in which he did a dance routine and in the full length movie with Tom.
I was referring to Basil of Baker Street in The Great Mouse Detective.
There were two mice named Roquefort in animation. You must be referring to the one from Terrytoons which also produced Mighty Mouse. I was thinking of the one from Disney's The Aristocats.
I think Pixie and Dixie are actually brothers like Chip and Dale. I wouldn't consider also Bernard from the "Rescuers" films but he has already been spoken for. Perhaps Jake the kangaroo mouse from "Rescuers Down Under" would be considered.

Jerry also spoke in some horrible made-for-video movie, from the 1980s (I think). He and Tom did a silent chase then sort of stopped and asked each other why they never spoke before...
Righ... Basil. I was thinking of Rattigan... a dead-give-away if I ever heard one. It's like giving your name as Costello and pretending your family wasn't Italian.
Little Roquefort was the Terrytoons mouse. I don't recall th enames of anybody from The Aristocats. I saw it once and wasn't impressed, so never watched the tape again. It was from Disney's long "bland" period.
Pixie and Dixie were most likely just friends -- if brothers, why two different accents? One thing for certain... there sure are a lot of mice in animation!

Mice has been in plenty of animation. Whether being a foil to villianous cats or Just trying to survive. Dogs, cats and mice would have to be the animals most often used in animation.

I think so -- they're like that game of rock, scissors and paper. Each one is a foil to one of the others and the circle goes round and round.

So it seems to be between a megalomaniac mouse who rarely wears trousers, a naive Russian kid and a... space-mouse(?) - I don't know anything about him...

That would be Space Mouse, a brief-lived Walter Lantz character who appeared in one cartoon and about a half dozen issues of a comic book in the early 60's. It was a character with some possibilities, but unfortunately Lantz was the Studebaker of studios.

Studebaker... I only ever saw one of those in "The Muppet Movie" - rare car?
π: 0 β©: 1
TaralWayne In reply to DCLeadboot [2012-01-26 17:10:24 +0000 UTC]
Not really, but it wasn't one of the Big Three, that's for sure. Studebakers were about as common on the road as, say, Nashes, Packards and DeSotos at one time. The other two vanished a bit sooner, but Studebaker hung on until 1964 or so. The sporty Avante was a classic, but production problems and failing sales for the marque ended it before the stylish, European lines had a chance to catch on. The Studebaker Champion Skyliner of 1954 was a classic, as was the 1957 Golden Hawk. The car you saw in the Muppet Movie was probably the 1950 Champion, famous as the car that looked the same coming and going. Yet it sold well for a time. The last operating Studebaker plant was located in Hamilton Ontario, Canada -- unusual trivial. The company began making buggies and carts in the middle 19th. century and is believed to have built the buggie that Lincoln rode in to his inaugeration in 1960. Four Quaker brothers founded it and ran it as a family until quite late, adding cars to their line only around the 1920s.

An early hobby of mine was cars. It never occurred to them that to revive an etinct variety, all they needed to do was to slap the name on an existing make, such is the way the design keeps changing.
'Course, Duryea and Benz are too antique to consider.Β
If you're solidly into cars, you can't go wrong in chatting with Moyomongoose over at InkBunny.net. He says he's a mongoose from Angola,Africa, and I like to think of him that way. But I fear the truth is quite prosaic.

I'm pretty conversant with old cars, but any true aficionado would leave me behind in the dust.
Technically, a Mercedes is a Mercedes-Benz, so the name is not yet extinct.Β Bugatti came back from the dead, so did Maybach ... briefly.Β The Studibaker Avanti also keeps popping up again from the dead.Β The Mini (BMW) was revived from the Mini Cooper.Β And of course the Dodge Charger and Chevrolet Camaro were re-instated mainly because it rotted their socks to leave the entire Pony car field to Ford's Mustang.

Indeed. I still have one of the comic books. It might have been a better character if Lantz had some idea of what to do with it other than a blantant Flash Gordon spoof. None of the characters had any more personality than a Riced Crispy.

I'm half expecting Brain to say, "Rosebud Frozen Peas: Full of country goodness and green peaness."
Also, I can imagine Gadget saying double entendres like: "If I were an ice cream cone, how would you lick me?"
Although, I'm afraid that if Fievel wanted to marry someone outside of the Jewish faith, his Papa might go all Tevye on him and say, "NO!"

"If I had one wish...it would be to spend eternity with you."
Hendrik van Loon, a popular history writer of the 30's and 40's once said that it was the creator's fate to spend eternity with his own creations after death. I'm so glad I'm not H.P. Lovecraft or Steven King.

What do you mean, "what do you mean"?
I mentioned van Loon as someone who said something rather like the tag line (or whatever that is) you had at the bottom of your previous message.
Or were you puzzled about why I wouldn't want to be Lovecraft or King? Imagine speding an eternity in an afterlife with Cthulhu or Cujo as your buddies.

I love it. I draw a thing. Somebody downloads it then uploads it again. Everybody benefits but me. I don't even know thousands of people are looking at my work.
Just to be fair, why don't we give away Steven King's next novel, or George Lucas's next Star Wars film. And then to keep all us artiste-type people from starving, we declare the People's Socialist Republic of Microsoftania.
I guess I'm not being too serious. Lucas and King have lawyers... but I'm not at all clear in my mind how to use the digital age to my benefit.
