Description
This is one of the earliest pictures I did of Tangel' in Willow Run. This would be shortly after she got her job in the bakery and had some spending money. Not having an opportunity to indulge herself before, she went a little wild, buying not only things she didn't need herself, but presents for me and Saara. (You can see she had no clothes sense any more than money sense.)In-jokes abound in the toy store window. But also notice M. Feder Books next door. More jokes, but also Moshe Feder is the same New York area fan, Moshe Feder.

Well, she's young and her frontal lobes are still developing. I, myself, made bonehead choices in my youth to the point that I now wonder whether it was ME who made such jackass decisions.

When you're covered with fur, clothes make little sense.

Feder & Bremogen are -or were- the publishers of some Lovecraftian books, NEW SHADOWS OVER INNSMOUTH for examp.
They are dormant or defunct now,but I have the book -and some stories are gruesome. One story had nothing to do with Innsmouth, but I was thankful for its inclusion (The Temple in High Street)

The Feder I was thinking of was Moshe Feder, an old friend of mine from New York. Β He works as an editor for Tor Books these days.

A number of errors to correct. My brain is oatmeal !
I garbled names. It's actually Fedogen & Bremer. Also the title of the book is "ShadowS over Innsmouth"*. Much of the interior art is, unfortunantly, repulsive and even obscene. For the past few years, I've been saturated with mythos fan-fics and wouldn't mind never reading any new stuff.
* The S is capitalized by me to distinguish this book from the original short novel by Lovecraft.

The title did sound familiar. Β I *might* even have read the Lovecraft original, since I don't own every copy of HLP I ever read.

Is that a train engine in the lower right of the window? It looks so damn familiar...

Yeah, one of those streamlined Deco engines from the 1920s. They were awfully cool, even if the streamlining really wasn't useful.

They were streamlined for AWESOME! ^_^
This was another of the first pieces of your art I saw. It was in B&W though. I love the Usagi Yojimbo and Albedo RPG.

Where did you see the art, if I may ask? Rorwbrazzle, Gallery of that second issue of Beatrix with the small b/w folio in the back?

Wow. I totally missed this reply. Sorry. >_<
I think I first saw it in one of the 'American Journal of Anthropomorphics' books. I encountered a LOT of new artists from those books.

Oh, man! I swear I remember seeing this and βGoing Our Wayβ in a magazine when I was sitting in the green room at eight the Boston or Chicago Worldcon, and that was, what, 20 years ago now?
Speaking of which, is this a revised version? I seem to recall that the model of the Buran was originally the Starship Yamato from Starblazers. But what can I say? Iβm terrible at remembering things...

Your memory needs a fresh battery, I think. The drawing never had the Yamato in that story window. The only Yamato I would be likely to draw would be the IJS Yamato from WWII, not the anime starship.
But 20 years is long enough for anyone memory batteries to run down.

Ah, well. That probably snuck into my memory from something else I saw about that time. Your drawings were a very pleasant surprise at a time when I was feeling rather miserable. I slowly figured out that I hate going to conventions, and I eventually even figured out that I donβt need to.

On the whole I like conventions, but for me its not like it seems to be for some people -- a non-stop high. My experience of cons was a mixture of boredom, a desire to get off by myself for a while, and intense involvement. One follow the other in fairly predictable pattern, so I can deal with it and on the whole enjoy a con. But furry cons are a harder to deal with than SF cons. Many of the people are, frankly, dumb-bunnies who are obsessed with something silly. They don't throw good parties. And I tended to miss the good dinner outings because I was packing up at m dealer's table while everyone was leaving the hotel. So furry cons grew gradually to be more and more just business to me.

My complaint about attending conventions is really just me, and not anything I consider to be wrong with conventions themselves. I donβt really relate to so much going on, I found myself resenting the time away from my work, and then the growing physical discomfort from a Native American predisposition for early-onset arthritis (thanks, Mom!)
But not to hijack your comments section for something unrelated. One thing that really impressed me about looking through your gallery here is just how long youβve had a relationship with some of these characters. Thatβs very alien to my own experience as a writer.

Very good picture. I like the doll in the window; she looks like Lum from Urusei Yatsura.

For a very good reason... it is. Most of the toys in the window tie in to one thing or another.
