This was my unit project in art at school. I really liked researching, making the mask and taking apart the keyboard, but... I really hated all the sewing ahaha ;_;
If you want to know what this costume "means", here's the little justification I wrote for school:
My costume combines aspects from two cultures: anonymous communication online and the traditional Bauta costume worn at Carnevale in Venice. What brings them together is that participants in both cultures hide their identities to gain social freedom -- they find liberation in anonymity. The Bauta costume is designed to cover the wearer from head to toe, and the Bauta mask features a jutting chin so the wearer can eat and speak without removing it, thus preserving his or her anonymity. Back when Venice was its own republic and the Doges were in power, Carnevale was one of the few times that working class Venetians could escape social barriers and mix with the nobility. A similar situation exists today on the internet. Anonymous servers protect the identities of their users, allowing them to speak freely without fear of physical consequences. People who live under oppressive governments and activists who oppose dangerous organizations often choose anonymity so they can speak and lead freely without risking violent opposition.
The hat, mask, cape, breeches, boots, stockings, shirt, and belt are all parts of the Bauta ensemble.
The mouse, computer keys, and linoleum prints of default avatars from Tumblr and Google all reflect anonymous culture online.
