Description Check out this first tutorial how did I draw those scaly characters Agamid, the Shivanian druid, comes here to show you how does he created.

I used "Liquify tool" to almost every steps to make the anatomy in proportion to correct, nearly, until the final product ^^

If you want to know what Photoshop tools I use, you can find out here----?The version is CS3

Thank you so much Agamid has tattoos which drawn by Kame'kalians, the anthro-chameleon druid people. When he joined and achieved magic and knowledge from them, he was given tattoos. ^^

So, what does it mean by "Rendering"?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TargonRedDragon In reply to inejwstine [2010-07-03 07:18:43 +0000 UTC]

Rendering-adding extra details, enhancing effects, adding special colors, lightings and shadings, adjusting tone of texture and rationalizing for hidden flaws, in my opinion ^^

Crappy and absolutely soulless (!) digital art. There, i finally spelled it out.

If this is the future of art, i feel pity.
ONLY (!) the very first pic is art from you, everything else is shiny, bling-bling photoshop magic. There is no soul or love in this process whatsoever.
Dont you understand that art is emotion? You bastardize this form of ex(im-)pression with your puny computer program.

You remember your last pic with Skaro and young Hotara? That was a great artwork! Among the best you ever did!!! But this and the other "photoshop-power demonstration datasheets"... shame on everyone, I say EVERYONE on this site who truly believes that this pic here is art. Let me say this: IT IS NOT!!!
And dont anybody dare to say that i am a nostalgist and dont like digital works. Even with photoshop you can create pics that have soul, that breathe the emotional spirit of the artist. BUT NOT THIS!!

Kevin, you are a slave of your machine, the program is in charge during your art-process. If you are a believer, i beg of you: rise up and and crush the shackles which photoshop has imprisoned you. You are too young to work with this program yet, you dont understand it very well and thus it commands you! If you let go of this program now you may learn to use it properly when your are older and more experienced.
And if you continue to do more traditional works (which show your true self), than you will get honest comments and ture appreciation and not this "Yay, you are so good - comment end" crap.

Btw: Revival is in life, not in Kingdom come... so enjoy your life.

Obviously you decided to not take me seriously. That's okay.

Continue with your soulless sh*t and rejoice upon the comments from your yay-sayers, who cannot see that you put absolutely no love and care into your pics.

[That was sarcasm]

WolfSaint In reply to TargonRedDragon [2010-07-06 10:16:56 +0000 UTC]

aww, he doesnt know what hes talkin' bout. Its your fantasy character that doesnt actually exist, its not even human, so how can he expect a reptilian organism to have human anatomy (regardless if it has humanoid properties...)? i dont know if Reptilecynrik has seen any real reptiles lately, but the neck on almost all of them are proportionally thicker than a human's. Even if its not anatomically perfect, its still one of the more refined "drawing processes" that Ive seen. I think your style is awesome. Dont let anyone else say otherwise~

P.S.- the important thing is you liking your art

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TargonRedDragon In reply to WolfSaint [2010-07-07 07:52:44 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, thank you Since anatomy isn't really perfect, anyone can modify their characters, but with correct proportions about anatomy, perspective and details. I sincerely agree with you because you explain with fairness and reasonable ideas. ^^

ReptileCynrik [2010-06-30 15:25:50 +0000 UTC]

Well, how can I comment on this without ripping it into pieces again.... Okay, let me give you the positive and negative aspects of this so called "tutorial".

Positive

1.) It's nice of you to share your digital techniques. Some people just keep this as a treasure and never reveal anything about their tools and techniques. So, this is a positive point for you.

2.) The idea itself - to show the different steps of how you create a character - is not bad at all. But of course, you have to expect some critique on this. Let me explain as followed.

Negative

1.) This is not a tutorial, at all... it's merely a presentation of your working steps. In a turorial, you would explain every step in detail. You would give us ALL the specs and facts about WHAT brush or filter you have used and everything else. You would have to tell us, which function of PHOTOSHOP you are using in each step.
So, this is NOT a "tutorial". You see, I am picky when it comes to definitions!!!

2.) It's not really... "art", if you ask me. It's a presentation of "what can PHOTOSHOP filters do".
In fact, the only parts where YOU really draw or create something, is step 1!! The other steps are just using filters and different "magic" brushes.
You wanna know why I'm so hard on you here?? Because I think you could do so much more. BUT so far, you're letting your digital tool "rule over you"! It's time that YOU use the tool and it's possibilities in a more artistical way... just like you do in your background or landscape artworks!! YES, in your backgrounds you proove that you can create something interesting by USING the digital tools properly.
But when you're drawing characters, you are just trying to let the digital filters do ALL THE WORK FORYOU!
Don't get me wrong... there are amazing digital artists around. And I personally love the tool for it's efficency.
Just be careful, that you don't lose yourself in the use of filters and PHOTOSHOP-HOCUSPOCUS!!!!

3.) I would have chosen something more simple to present your work... sometime like a "head" or just a part of the character.
Why?
Well, by showing us a complete character, you have ultimately presented your biggest weakness again: your ANATOMY!
And by showing such figure, you have to expect critique.

*sighs*

Well, I know... this is a presentation of "working steps" and not a real well done anatomy study. So, I won't be sooooo hard on you now!

I hereby present your 3 great weakness points when it comes to anatomy (I hope you work on that in the future):

A] THE NECK
Your necks are 1) wrongly connected to the head and shoulder and 2) too large! Check out how this muscle really looks like, or your characters will always look like if they got some huge pile of meat on their shoulders!!!

B] THE WAIST/HIPS

While your upper body (torso, chest, tummy) looks pretty okay so far, your hips are still horrible!!
Your creatures lack a hipbone (pelvis)! They really do NOT have it. You draw a waist muscle and no loins... this muscle is directly leading to the thigh muscle, and THAT IS JUST WRONG. It will always look like if we could break your characters in half.
Er... this is also the reason why your loincloth is NOT working well here. It should be connected around the hips... but you do not draw hips.

C] THE KNEE/CALVES

Your characters do not have a hollow of the knee. Your thigh muscle usually leads to the calf and that's it. It looks like two body parts of an action figure. Just try to draw more space between lower and upper leg.
You did well on the left leg here.... but the right one is incorrect!

Here is a great sketch about anatomy:

Practise and carry on!! ^^

TargonRedDragon In reply to ReptileCynrik [2010-07-01 09:03:28 +0000 UTC]

Gosh, I thought the pose of that character is okay ^^" You pointed out those "unseen" flaws on anatomy (I'm talking about the final product )
Nice to hear that it's obviously a "drawing process" instead of "tutorial"

About your negative aspect no. 2, aww, that may be believable for most digital artists, to use photoshop boldly and fairly as a good "tool" to create digital artworks. ^^

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ReptileCynrik In reply to TargonRedDragon [2010-07-01 13:46:30 +0000 UTC]

I have NO idea what you mean about "unseen flaws"... but I suppose you refer to flaw and mistakes YOU make, which you haven't seen during the drawing process.

Believe me, even I cannot see MY flaws myself. My friends have to see it for me, because you cannot always be impartial about your own art.
So, and that's where the problem is: YOU are already so "enclosed" in your own style and motives, that you cannot see mistakes anymore.
This happens when you don't listen sometimes.
It happened to me, as well.
So, but that's why I point out your flaws in detail!!!! ^^

DO something about it, or I'll bug you all over again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Unfortunately, I have to slap you even more right now.
It is NOT "nice to hear" that this is not a tutorial. It's a stupid mistake you could've avoided!
Be careful when you use titles!!! This here is NOT a tutorial at all, because it is NOT teaching us anything.
[tutorial --> tutor (lat.) = protector, warden, teacher]

You have not understood my "aspect nr.2", have you? I don't believe you have.

I am talking about using a digital tool the way it was supposed to be: just a tool. It's the same like using a pencil or pen. This digital program is only a tool and it can just help you to draw different art.
I don't say digital is better or traditional is better... that always depends.
It is just different.
But right now, you don't "create" enough on your own... you don't practise enough on your flaws and you just let PHOTOSHOP do all the hard work.
When I said you can do great backgrounds, I meant it!!
When you do landscapes or skies, you USE the digital media in a much more artistical way. You use all the filters wisely, you use the brushes better and you create something wonderful..... and the program is ONLY "helping" you here. It is not doing all the work for you.

But I think, it's too hard to understand. Maybe, I should rest my case. After all, who am I to judge other people's style and technique.
It was only MY personal opinion!
