I would enjoy seeing some Ravens, they are beautiful, intellegent, and clever birds.

About having a crow or a raven as a pet. They are wonderful, intellegent creatures. But remember, they can't live in a cage! They distroy stuff for fun, hide food in bad places(how about the furnace) tear sheetrock off the walls, shredd laundry, and squirt poop everywhere-and constantly. And while it is legal to own a crow here where I live-it might not be legal where you are.

I love my Dumbledore, and thank you for the wonderful comment But warn everyone who says they want a pet crow or raven about what to expect.
I am glad that you enjoyed my Dumbledores photos! I might take some more-If Dumble will allow it(he hates cameras!) thanks again, from tarp?Kathryn

You know I told you before that I do not like birds, right? I'm actually afraid of them (Gee Thanks, Mr. Hitchcock!) but Dumbledore is so charming and expressive. I can tell he is not happy with his latest photo op!
Really sweet though! Thanks for sharing him with us!

Oops. I forgot that you don't like birds. I understand, we all have our phobias.

No, Dumble was thinking about pecking the camera-and not a little go away warning peck either. He has also decided that his tiny vitamin bottle is his enemy-and attacks it every chance he gets-it actually very funny to watch-but I have to make Dumble stop, or he will poke a hole in the bottle.

Dumble though is really very sweet, and gentle. Strange and fickle-but sweet! from tarp

I am mad at Dumbledore right now. I unloaded a basket of whites to hang on the clothes line. I left the basket on my laundry room floor for a little while, until it wasn't so hot-came back and noticed a bunch of little threads on the floor-but it didn't register in my mind what those threads were-went outside to hang my laundry-picked up a white t-shirt with a nasty splotch on it-Dumble snuck in to the laundry room, hopped into that basket-tore up some washclothes and crapped in my clean laundry. My husband thought that was really funny-until he saw that t-shirt=his t-shirt! Ha ha ha!

Thats unbelievable! I want one too!

tarpalsfan In reply to Brawl56 [2011-06-02 19:19:54 +0000 UTC]

Yes, I have a crow, maybe more of a family member than a pet.

"He" is clever and affectionate, and pretty gentle too. Loves to play, get petted, take baths. And clown around for attention. A true joy to me and my family.

Also fickle, moody, and easy to scare. Dumbles also a destroyer of laundry and a walking crap machine. You can't keep a crow in a cage, they'd beat themselves to death in one. (mine stays on top of a cage-unless he gets on the floor).
Dumble hates strangers and other animals, and attacks cameras!
Otherwise, they are perfect.

Is it hard to keep them?
Do he sometimes sits on your shoulder or so? That would be awesome, or is he too scared?
...and why he does hate cameras?
Thanks for the information!

He will sit on my arm, in my lap, get under my feet, sometimes peck at my shoes. If I sit on the floor when the heater is going in the winter-he will crawl underneath me

He has his own toys, and likes it when we pretend to try and take them from him-he even taunts who's playing with him.

He communicates with both body language, and with different sounds.

I think the camera, phone, ect, dislike is jealousy. I am holding something other than him. I don't know for sure

No problem! I like talking about Dumbledore almost as much as I like talking about...oh hell, I like talking about him! LOL!

Thanks for listening-!!!!!

Aww... nice

Haha Awesome

You're very welcome!
I really want a crow too, but my parents think that I'm totally crazy. Especially my dad.
(Same thing with lizards and snakes )
I think when I got my first own flat I'll try to get a crow.
They're so beautiful with their shiny black feathers and their overall...blackness?
Anyway, thanks for answering my questions
(And please don't stop talking about him! I want to know more! )

tarpalsfan In reply to Brawl56 [2011-06-05 21:33:14 +0000 UTC]

I think he's awesome.
I got pretty mad at him yesterday when he snuck into my laundry room, hopped into a basket of clean whites, destroyed some towels-while pooping away while he did so!

I couldn't stay mad at him for long though, he knows how to butter me up, a little affection and all is well.

The thing about having a crow-you can't keep them in a cage. I am serious. They'd beat themselves to death in one. If Dumbledore wasn't incapable of surviving outside, I would have released him. He does talk to other crows when he hears them outside.

I like reptiles, insects, just about any animal. My husband though has had enough-lol! He wouldn't even let me have a hairless rat or an Emporor Scorpion! from tarp

Hoo... ._.
Nobody can be mad at such a cute crow

Well, I wouldn't keep a bird in a cage. They need to have their freeroam, to fly around 'n stuff.
Can you also speak with him? I mean does he answer you when you say something to you? (My cat does that )

Yaaay! I really want a Thorny-Devil. Eventhough they're just small reptiles. But he looks so fascinating.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

tarpalsfan In reply to Brawl56 [2011-06-08 16:29:40 +0000 UTC]

I talk to Dumbledore all the time. He answers in his own way. The only words he mummbles-and very rarely is :water, and mama.

"he" (Dumble is probably a female!) was cuddling with my husband-when I quitly walked in the room. That made Dumble angry and he started pecking the plate his food goes on-telling me to go away!

Later I went back in to Dumble and said. umble is being mean to his only mama today. Dumble went ah-ah-and sort of nodded. I said the same thing twice, and got the same reaction both times. He was wanting affection.

There is an old wives tale that says, that if you want a crow to be able to talk (human) to you-you have to split the crows tongue!

Not smart. I believe that someone trying to split my Dumbles tongue would be fatal! lol! Not from a crow flogging either!

Thorny Devils are fascinating. I would be afraid that if I had one, I wouldn't be able to care for it properly and it would die.

I recieved two exotic tree frogs for Christmas one year. A gift I wasn't expecting. And while I am good with animals, sadly the frogs didn't survive very long. The same thing happened with a baby iguana. No more surprise pets for me! from tarp

You know, I wonder how hard it would be to have a small reptile(we have a turtle). If we could keep it warm in the winter? They are fascinating.
Our turtle sort of semi-hybernates during the winter. We build him a big outside enclosure-so in the spring and summer-he lives outside(the turtle).

They're sooooo unbelievable cute

I like reptiles. I used to live in Texas when I was a kid, in the country. We sometime found gopher tortoise. They were wonderful! Sadly, I think they are pretty rare now. We also found sliders, musk turtles, soft shell, and box turtles. Snakes, diamondbacks, copperheads, cottonmouths, and lots of non-venomous snakes too. Lots of great lizards, frogs, toads. We were lucky and had a little creek.
San Antonio had lots of great bats.

Here in North West Arkansas, we have lots of wild caves-there used to be lots of bats-but this year-where are they?! I only saw one bat last night(all season-one bat!)-and only two lightening bugs! And come to think of it, only one tiny ring neck snake. It is wierd!

But I can say that we have bats! Now in the summerevening when the sun just went down, a whole swarm of bats flies through our garden. So beautiful

We went to Branson, but the Transformers were not showing on the giant screen untli 9:00 at night. We couldn't stay that late, we did get to see the movie though!

Wow! I don't think I've seen a movie to match this one ever! Not even the other Transformer movies were as over the top. The one scene I fussed about was the 'building' scene-I was thinking that everyone would be dead! (I loved it-lol!)

It was also darker when it came to killing humans.

We didn't even see it in 3d! And it was still awesome.

Yes, I want to see it again too!

Best of all, with my new hearing aids, I could actually hear MOST of what said!

Hehe, well ROTF was really bad. Even as a big TF Fan I can't stand this movie... But the first Movie is a great one!
Yeah, it was a flawless scene! I think the basejumpingscene was great, too and when Megatron shot the Lincoln-Memorial to sit on the throne.

Yeah, especially Laserbeak! The scene where he disguised himself as a pink Bumblebee and killed the whole family was pretty serious.

Ho, if you want to see it again, take the chance and try to watch it in 3D. It's really worth it!

That's really great! I'm glad for you

She was waaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than Mikaela. I can't stand Megan Fox. She doesn't look nice in any way, but Rosie does. And her acting was pretty much a lot better than that of Fox.

I am not so surprised that a guy from Germany would like Capt. America. I have another friend from Germany who didn't care for the Transformer movies much...but can't wait to see Captain America.

As for the Harry Potter movies, I liked most of them. I will see the last one. The only movie that of the HP series that I didn't like was The Half Blood Prince.

How old is Dumbledore? Was he difficult to raise?

Thanks Richard,
Yes, he is wonderful. I have always loved watching crows, ravens, and jays too.

I did not write down when I got Dumbledore, because I really didn't know if 'he'd' survive. He was hard to save at first, I had to soak on of those frozen egg patties in water, then tear it up and cram those little soggy pieces down his throat(he was near dead and really dehydrated-those egg patties are like sponges). He lived.

Crows fledge before they can fly very well, I am guessing that something got after him while he was on the ground, he was laying in the road(in the country) and before my parents could stop, they drove over Dumble, then got out and picked him up, thinking he was dead. Sorry for the long story! But I wanted you to know that I didn't steal him from his parents.

Oh yeah, I don't know if you can see it, but Dumble has no tail-you probably can see the bump on his head though!
I love to show of photos of my Dumbledore, there are several more in my photos.

I understand about the fledges. Most of the raven's fledges usually have not survived. Several years ago I managed to catch several owl babys. I have no place to raise them, so, I gave them to a animal rescue group.
I hope Dumbledore will have patience for another foto!

A doe turned up dead near our house this morning. I could not find any real wounds on it. I am afraid that there is a fawn around our house somewhere. That bothers me, it is terribly hot and an orphan fawn will not last long in this heat. I don't want another animal to raise though!

Someone brought me a tawny owl last year after it had bonked into thier car. It was just stunned. It also had an old injury, it was missing an eye. I had them take the owl back where they found it and release it. I had talked with the gamewarden-(it is illegal to keep a bird of prey without a special licence here) about the owls eye. He assured me that it would be fine.

I will sneak up on Dumble and take another photo or so before to long-or distract him with the 'evil telephone!"
