Description
Saw The Lone Ranger movie last night. It was okay. FYI this scene is NOT at all there in the movie. I just drew it from the classic "girl tied up on the train tracks" western trope.Like i said, the movie was okay. On one hand they were making a grown-up western movie with gunslingers and outlaws and the development of the Wild West, with political relations between Native Americans, and on the other hand it was a story narrated to a kid about a hero whose sidekick is more charismatic and realized than he is. It felt like another way to make a Johnny Depp movie, along the vein of, but inferior to Pirates of the C... The second half is better than the first I feel, which is rare for me. Still, this is all just my opinion. They did NOT need OLD Tonto narrating story to kid though. Also, the movie opens in modern(-ish) day, which takes away from the authentic western feel, and constant referances to the future, do not help either. Armie Hammer is alright. The lady did NOT have much to do. The 2 kids in the film were whatever (the kid in modern day was okay, since he was acting like a kid. The western kid was unlikable over all). The US military captain guy went from a man with a heavy sense of duty and guilt of war deeds, to a whimpering bumbling fool who has a weird ivory leg fetish. The REAL bad guy was spotted at the beginning of the film,i.e. The old guy who almost always plays bad guys who act like good guys. Helena Bonham Carters dancer boss-lady character "Red" was given a leg gimmick and nothing to do. She is literally in 2 scenes in which she has lines, and she fires the leg-gun only TWICE. The most interesting bad guy was the closet-cross dressing henchman. He had 2 scenes. Tontos face make up stays on even though they basically fall into a river and almost drown, yet in other scenes it is cracking apart. The bird on Tontos head has been dead for more than 30 years, yet hold together like it is paralyzed. And it never comes into play. The music used is one every one associates with as a Lone Ranger appropriate tune. The last action sequence was great mostly. Should have been more of that. This is an origin story, so Armie Hammer technically becomes Lone Ranger at the END of the movie. He also only says 'HIGH HO, SILVER" only ONCE as a gag, and it is dismissed quickly. They should have embraced the folksy and corny aspects of the hero more. The gag "WHAT IS WITH THE MASK?" was not strong enough. Also lot of people doing the western accent whisper and you can completely make out what they are saying. Wow, i wrote this like a "EVERYTHING WRONG WITH THE LONE RANGER" youtube video!Didnt mean to! honest! Rating: 2.5/5. If you love Johnny Depp: 3.5/5.
If you would like to see more of director Gore Verbinski, and Johnny Depp in a western, i suggest you check out the animated movie: RANGO. It deconstructs the western genre in an interesting way.
