Description
Here's a brand new Dejah Thoris sketch, which is currently up for auction on Ebay. I could draw this character all day, everyday. This one started with pencil, then inked, then colored with colored pencils, then touched up a bit digitally.Related content

HI Dave- nicely done! I saw the Ebay auction and wondered do you post the same scan that we see here with the digital touch-up and is that a concern, or is the touch up so minimal you feel the original piece is generally accepted just as well? I'm asking because I also like to touch up small areas of my scans as the scan doesn't really represent the original very well- thanks so much!

Hey thanks. The scan posted on Ebay is virtually untouched, and I say virtually because many times the scanner picks up and magnifies the texture of the colored pencil more than what it actually looks like in real life. I'll touch up an area just a bit to reflect more what the piece actually looks like. The scan posted on Deviantart is touched everywhere by the computer. Right click and download both the ebay scan and the one here on Deviant art and you'll see all the subtle differences.

Cool- thanks Dave, great information. Without downloading, I couldn't really see a difference between the Ebay and the DA versions so I might do as you suggest and really look at both closer. I think this one you've posted has inspired me to try a Dejah Thoris of my own some time in watercolor, looks fun!

She's really gorgeous. I'm going to definitely need to look into those novels. Are these related to the 'Tarzan' novels that he's done? I vaguely remember seeing Frazetta (I think) do some Tarzan of Mars art.

The Mars novels and the Tarzan novels are not related in any way, although both series of books are written by Burroughs. Frazetta did do some paintings for some hardback editions of the Mars novels which are considered some of his best and most iconic works. Pixar is currently working on a John Carter of Mars movie which I cannot wait to see.

Same author, Edgar Rice Burroughs, but different series and setting. Dejah Thoris is John Carter, Warlord of Mars' girl in the series of books by ERB. ERB did a whole range of books in a variety of fantastic settings. Dejah Thoris is one of my favorite females in all of comicdom.

Well, you definitely know how to draw lavish royalty. Her majesty knows how to "accessorize."
She's simply gorgeous, just oozing with affluence.

This is Dejah Thoris from the Mars novels written by Edgar Rice Burroughs. Without any previous writing experience Burroughs wrote "A princess of Mars" back in 1911. I don't know anything about a similarly named character written by Heinlen.

Ahh alright. I'll have to take a look into those novels.
There's another character, also awesome, from some of Heinlein's novels. Her first appearance is in The Number of the Beast.
