Description
savages, barely even human. Savages, savages, killers at the coreno, okay, sorry
Patagonia insulted Hero's daddy skills and he was not about it :'D
PATAGONIA
Patagonia stared after the mutt, rage and concern burning in her chest. She just knew that something bad was going to happen. Hunters killed deer; it was how the farmers of Canidale survived. And she was sure that if the hunter did do such a thing as shoot the fawn, Hero would hold true to his word and attack the human.
Patagonia was torn between saving her pride and marching away, and running after Hero to make sure he didn't hurt the farmer. She loved humans, and still had the heart of a pet; humans would always come first.
Without a word, the beagle bounded after the mutt and trotted just behind him. "Hero, please," she said, using the p word for the first time in a very long time. "Just listen to me! Just... just stay at the edge of the woods with the fawn, and I'll go get your human! What if the fawn- er, Rein is afraid of him, huh? What if she tries to run away?"
Just in case that wasn't enough, Patagonia decided to play a different card on Hero. "Besides, that's my fawn. I found her! You never would've tracked her down if it weren't for me. You wouldn't have known what she was, either! You said so yourself -- you'd never seen a deer before. You need me to help you. This isn't some snowy landscape where reindeer prance through the snow. She's a forest creature! You- you don't know what she eats, or how she plays, or how big she's going to get."
For once in her life, Patagonia found herself rambling on and practically begging Hero to let her help. She couldn't bear to watch anything bad happen to the fawn or the farmer. Despite what Hero had said, she did have maternal instinct for the orphan. The creature appeared so delicate and innocent, just like Cardigan.
Just like Cardigan, she repeated to herself, looking over at the fawn and studying her spotted pelt.
HERO
Hero had no more patience for the beagle. As it was, she had already deprived him of all his usual boisterous joy, but her "please" gave her his attention. He didn't think she had it in her. "I don't care about all that...," he started in a flat voice, "and I would've found her just fine without you, you just distracted me." Hero continued walking in silence for moment, before the ridiculousness of Patagonia calling Rein her fawn fully hit him and he had to stop. He shook is head, his face scrunched with annoyance. "You don't even want her, and I don't even trust you not to treat her badly. I'm three years old and you're just a kid, don't act like I don't know what I'm doing! And even if she did get as big a caribou or only ate the fireweed grown at the top of mount McKinley, you think I'd stop loving her? You think I wouldn't run all the way to Alaska to feed her?! You don't even care! Where's your blind puppy now, huh? You just abandon her to go frolic around in a forest and be hateful? I wouldn't put it past you! So don't even think about coming near Rein, and don't even bother trying to talk to me anymore, because I'm done being nice to someone who won't even-who's just so- freakin'-- UGH!" Hero turned away from Patagonia and closed his eyes hard, rage and disappointment filling his body. He didn't mean to be so mean and rude. He hated how much he sounded like her. But he was tired of saying sorry. Nothing he could do would make her happy it seemed, so there was no point even trying anymore.
PATAGONIA
One thing was certain: Patagonia was not expecting the words that flew from Hero's mouth and licked her heart like raging flames.
How dare he accuse her of abandoning Cardigan. For months, she taught the blind pup how to live in a house. She potty trained her, taught her how to jump on couches, how to play with squeaky toys, how to interact with strangers, and how to be a puppy in general. The pup came from a puppy mill and knew nothing. For months she had sheltered Cardigan from the world. For months she had given up her own happiness to ensure Cardigan's. She had played big sister, and even mother at times. To say Patagonia was a kid was to discredit everything she'd done for the pup. She was two years old, after all! Just a year short of Hero!
There were not enough words in the world to describe the anger boiling inside of Patagonia. She had to get it out somehow, though. Like a kettle boiling over, all of her anger poured out in just two sentences.
"I've watched you frolic around the Farm Faction like a mindless puppy ever since I arrived in Canidale, and if there's one thing I know for certain, it's that you're a mindless, stupid, childish waste of fur. That fawn would be better off with a grizzly bear than someone who can't even catch his own tail."
The beagle was so enraged that the fur on her back was standing up like a Rhodesian Ridgeback's. Her fangs glistened in the sparse sunlight, and the growl manifesting from her throat resembled that of a July thunderstorm. She had never, ever been as angry as she was right now.
HERO
She wasn't wrong, but that didn't mean it didn't hurt. He was livid more than anything. Hero stood like a savage, hackles raised and eyes pierced with fiery rage. He let a low growl rumble in his chest for a short moment before lunging forward, snarling with a gaping maw. In an instant, he receeded, a concerned look playing on his face. All his anger had disappeared and all that was left was fear. "No." he said in a quiet, fearful voice. He didn't really want to hurt her. He didn't want to hurt anyone. He told himself he was going to grow up and be a man and here he was about tear into a little girl all because she was being a "meanie". Hero took a step back from Patagonia and sat down. "I... I'm sorry..." He said, his fear turning into disappointment in himself. "I know no one is ever just mad for no reason... I know I... um... I said some hurtful things, and I don't really know your feelings, so I shouldn't have jumped to conclusions like that..." A tight ball formed in Hero's throat and he tried his best to swallow it down. He was embarrassed, and frustrated, and disappointed in himself, but he was trying his best to apologize and give the beagle a chance to explain herself, that is, if she wasn't too proud to stoop down to his level of humility.

HERO
As he just began his life as a hunting dog, Hero had yet grasp the concept of "tracking". More accurately, he never understood what his master meant when he'd say "find it boy." The husky mutt wasn't the greatest at tracking by any means, but like any other dog, if he found a scent, it stuck with him. Today, he decided to take a trip into the wood that lined the edge of his territory as he picked up on something interesting. The scent reminded him of the smell of caribou that could be found on the wind at times in Alaska, but this scent seemed different. It was almost sweeter. He kept his nose close to the ground as he scanned the scent trail intensely with a wiggly brown nose, hoping to find the source of thi
