HERO
"I'm sorry Patty." He breathed as he lowered his head down to her level, his ears falling flat as he did. "You shouldn't even be here..." Hero nuzzled her only enough to where she wouldn't notice, or at least wouldn't mind. Despite his usually distasteful encounters with the beagle, he couldn't help but want to comfort her, he just didn't know how. Approaching Patagonia was like walking on a minefield of spikes- he couldn't seem to win no matter what he did. Still, his paternal compassion outweighed her ever prevalent disagreeable manner. "My human should be here soon, don't worry..." He cooed, wrapping his tail around her lower half near the end of his statement, still wary of her open wound. Hero went silent after that. He was no longer interested in idle chatter, only solving problems, but there was nothing else he could do. He let out a strained breath that wanted to be a whine as he contemplated all his options, but there weren't many to choose from. He settled on leaning closer to Patagonia, if not for her contentment, then selfishly his own, and set his ears on the task of keenly listening out for the plodding footsteps of his owner.

PATAGONIA
The hound wasn't sure what to make of Hero's newfound affection; she couldn't even bring herself to flinch when he plopped down beside of her. Instead, she simply shifted her gaze to meet Hero's, only half listening to what he said. It's my fault we're here, she thought. If I weren't so... so ornery and snobby... Patagonia tried to think back on all the good deeds she'd done in the presence of Hero, but to no surprise, her mind drew a blank. The truth was, she probably deserved to be knocked down a few pegs. This was by no means an enlightenment upon her character, but it was an event that would perhaps make her reconsider her attitude towards life and the dogs that were part of it.
