Description This is a picture from inside the ancient town of Pompeii.
Pompeii was a Roman town-city near modern Naples in the Italian region of Campania,
It was destroyed and completely buried during a long catastrophic eruption of the volcano Mount Vesuvius spanning two days. The eruption buried Pompeii under 4 to 6 meters of ash and pumice, and it was lost for over 1,500 years before its accidental rediscovery in 1599. Since then, its excavation has provided an extraordinarily detailed insight into the life of a city at the height of the Roman Empire.

I haven't visited Pompeii yet, but I got to see Ostia Antica last spring, and it's in a similar state of repair, only without the overcooked loaves of bread.

I'd recommend taking a tour.
It's quite the experience...

I certainly want to go. Kamui and I saw Vesuvius from across the bay of Naples when our cruise ship visited Capri, but that's as close as we've been.

A lot of people were roasted in that city.
