"Jem" is a bit old (depending on who's talking) character in the days of (quite) limited animation (late 1980's / early 1990's ?) part of the cartoon series "Jem & the holograms", a fictional all-girl 'rock' band trying to "empower" young girl viewers....

I remember seeing Jem available on Netflix a few months ago - if you have Netflix but have never seen Jem, it is definitely worth watching, at least the first few episodes. I cannot vouch for the film from a few years ago - I remember seeing the trailers, but I never saw the actual film.
