Story:

AnnaAnna’s eyes scanned the gathering of people, checking off items on a mental list as she tightened the girth on the curly dire male. Reese’s tail was gently wagging as he too watched over the excitement, his ears twitching in all directions at the sounds of equipment and voices. Bronach sat next to them, patiently and obediently waiting. As soon as Anna had harnessed the female, she had gone into work mode. All the final preparations were being made among the small group of ten riders and their Tokotas. Tack was being checked, packs were being secured, weapons sharpened and stowed away. Everything had to be checked and double checked before they could set off to the Tartok mountains.

A rider had arrived a little less than a month earlier, bringing news of the research that was about to be done in the mountains. He’d said that experienced handlers were needed on contract and Anna didn’t want to pass up the opportunity to learn more about dires. It seemed she wasn’t the only one interested and soon the small group had started making preparations to depart from the main winter migration as soon as they were close enough to the mountains.

They’d said their goodbyes earlier that morning, the rest of the tribe set off with the caribou herd, led by Nikki and Ian. They would reunite in the spring after the expedition. It was the first migration Anna had missed since the creation of the tribe and while she was full of anxiety, she felt confident that Nikki and Ian could manage with the other tribe members.

Satisfied that Reese and Bronach were travel ready, Anna meandered through the small crowd, checking on everyone as she went, announcing that they would be heading out shortly. She ended her rounds with the brown half mane female and her wolverine companion. Walking up to Tuaq, she gently placed her hand on his shoulder. “Hey,” she smiled warmly. “You all set? We’re heading out soon.”

Tuaq
Squatting on the ground, Tuaq went through his saddlebags for the final time. They would be gone a long time and he wanted to ensure he had not forgotten anything that might be needed on such a specialised and important trip. A lot of the tribes scouts were leaving together, so he was sure between them all they would have everything needed, but he prefered to rely upon himself and not be a burden to the others.

Finally pleased with the state of his packs he lifted the heavy bags and settled them over the strong back of the young male that crouched beside him. Igi had grown into a fine animal in the last seasons. He was not trained to ride as he was still maturing, but he was already the same height as Kaniq and promised to be still larger when he finished growing. The wolverine wagged his tail, entire rear end wiggling as his excitement grew. Tuaq grunted out a correction, stilling the movement as he resettled the bags that had slipped and clipped them in place.

Movement behind him alerted him to the cause of Igi’s excitement, and a gentle hand on his shoulder and the familiar voice brought a smile to his face. He placed a steady hand on the tokotas neck, stilling him as he stood and turned towards Anna. “Almost, i just need to double check everything is secured and we are ready to leave.” Igi let out a whimper as he shook with the effort of staying still instead of greeting the woman. Sighing Tuaq released him and with a happy yip the big tokota lurched to his feet before wiggling forward and snuffling around the Alpha’s face in greeting. “How is the rest of the tribe? have we had any people pull out at the last minute?”

Anna
“Okay Igi!” Anna laughed lightheartedly, placing her hands on either side of his jowls and squishing his face. “You’re a nut,” she stared at him seriously, giving way to giggling as his wagging tail began to shake his back end again. After giving him a thorough scratch behind his ears, she turned her attention back to Tuaq.

“There were a few, but that’s okay. A smaller group is easier to watch over. I’m confident with this group.” Giving another glance over the gathering the smile returned to her lips as she looked back to Tuaq. “And I’m happy you’re coming. It makes it easier to be away from the tribe.” She lingered on his eyes for a moment until her smile grew and she broke away from him, speaking out to the group. “Okay everyone, let’s wrap it up and head out! Jay, Siluk, Tuaq and I will be on point. Keep one of us in your sights at all times. Do not get separated, we’re going into unfamiliar territory.”

Returning to her dires, Anna gestured for Bronach to stand. Reese laid down as his handler turned to his side and Anna climbed onto the massive males back. Tapping his shoulder, he heaved himself back to his feet and a rush of excitement washed over Anna as the journey’s beginning was upon them. Turning him north, Anna gave a sweeping wave of her arm, signifying that they were leaving.

Tuaq
Tuaq shifted on Kaniq’s back, easing the tired muscles after the last couple of days on the move. They had been close to the Tartok Mountains when they left the tribe, but it had still left a large distance to be covered before they actually made it to the base camp for the expedition. So far the journey had been smooth, the large group spending the days laughing and joking as they covered the distance. The Tokota’s had all coped well with the steady pace. They had been careful not to push faster than the slowest could manage, the last thing they wanted was to lose anyone due to poor planning.

Kaniq let out a soft rumble as Igi bumped into her, glaring the youngster back into line. Tuaq placed a steadying hand on her neck, clicking her onwards. Igi had been boisterous at the beginning of the trip, but the constant moving and the experienced Tokotas were quickly teaching him what acceptable behaviour was on a journey like this. He still had occasional moments of energy but he had seemed content to follow the large dire’s around, investigating everything they sniffed, and marking any rocks he came across.

The wind picked up, ruffling the fur trim on Tuaq’s hood and causing Kaniq to flatten her ears. He looked overhead, worried at the still blue skies above them. Turning to ask Siluk if he had heard anything concerning on the radio he felt the words die in his throat. Behind the mountains clouds loomed. The strong wind continued to rise, visibly driving the white towers towards the string of adventurers.

Already having to raise his voice, Tuaq shouted to Anna, pointing behind him to the approaching storm. “We need to get the group to cover before that hits!” He urged Kaniq forwards, he scanned the mountain side for any lee to help ease the danger of the oncoming storm.

Anna
Hearing Tuaq’s voice over the wind, she turned her head to the side, gripping her hood to keep it from being blown off by the growing winds. The clouds growing over the mountainside gave her an ill feeling and she knew now what Tuaq had shouted, they needed to find shelter.

Bringing Reese to a stop, she turned in the saddle to look back over the group. Raising her fingers to her lips, she let out a shrill, piercing whistle. She waved her arm, signalling to the group to pick up the pace. “Take the lead!” she shouted to Tuaq, turning Reese back down the hillside, taking up a spot at the back of the line to make sure there were no stragglers. She wouldn’t allow anyone to get separated in the looming storm.

Hi! About publishing your work; as a creator/story-teller yourself; do you have control over which sites do you want it to be seen? or the program/tool keeps a copy for its homepage? Because I'm interested in making my own, but I only wanted it to be viewed here in DA, because it is a fan fiction & not to be read anywhere.

Is Madefire sort-of like Comixology with creat-your-own-feature?

Can it also accept transparent png & animated gifs?

Tauriiga In reply to Aellostriker2 [2016-09-05 03:47:48 +0000 UTC]

Well, as a rule of thumb, once it's on the internet, it's public. You can't prevent other people from sharing or linking back to it, unless you keep it in your sta.sh and only share the link with those who you want to see it.

I haven't heard of Comixology, but Madefire does accept png's. Not sure about gifs. Your best best is to just explore the app to see what it's capable of

Tauriiga In reply to KirasDarkLight [2015-07-31 07:10:23 +0000 UTC]

It's a lot of layer organization, that's for sure. If you don't set them up right and if they aren't nice and clean of stray brush strokes, it will look messy in motion book.

And sure! If you want to sketch something up, I'd be happy to do a bg and color.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

KirasDarkLight In reply to Tauriiga [2015-07-31 07:55:15 +0000 UTC]

Oh gosh I can imagine. Is motion books really hard to use, or is it pretty simple as long as you've got your layers apart?

Wew~! I'll wip something up and send it to you. Do you prefer solid lines, or is sketchy better?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Tauriiga In reply to KirasDarkLight [2015-07-31 08:01:40 +0000 UTC]

Solid lines are preferred. ^^

Motion books isn't too difficult, but it does take some fiddling to get used to how it works. There are some great tutorials on YouTube.
