Description Five days work and he's finished. Very proud of him, being as it's my first digital painting. It was done in PSP9 with the mouse, using a reference image for colour and basic shape. David Tennant is of course, copyrighted to David Tennant. I don't own the image nor the man (shame) but I do enjoy painting his pretty face.

EDITED 7th Feb - Realised he needed a pretty background, so voila.

Hello, it's me again xD
This is totally cool, looks exactly like the lovely Tennant!
I'm intrigued by your painting style though, how do you manage to do it so you work from the bottom up, rather than making layer over layer?

It's a totally different style to what I'm doing now (layer by layer like you said, base colours then shading and such) because I found that too difficult with just my mouse (I've now got my tablet, hence the change in technique). For this, I sketched the outline over the reference image, then painted blocks of colour and used the smudge tool to work in where the shadows should be, adding anymore colour over the top as needed, then smudging some more. I flicked back and forth from just the sketch outline view to the reference image to make sure I wasnt painting anything in the wrong place (I had to redo the teeth cause of that, they were totally wrong the first time!) It's quite a fun technique, kinda like finger painting lol you get nice colour transitions (like on the neck area) as well as nice wispy hair (good for David in this case). Finer details are more difficult though.

Wow that's really interesting, I think this is the first work I've seen that's been done like that! Yeah I can imagine the usual technique might be quite hard with a mouse. In any case, it looks totally awesome, so keep it up! xD

awesome detail! The lines of his face, the eyes, the smile, and of course the hair all done perfectly and quite accurately. Cheers to your great work!

Thankyou very much! I'm quite proud of it. I worked really hard to get the lines, eyes and hair right. Just wish the teeth were a little better though The hair was a lot easier than I thought it'd be, to get it looking so ruffled
