Toni and Damien wait for their orders to arrive.

Toni: You know it's strange. All the time I knew you, I never asked what it is you do at work. Like, I know you're a scientist, but, what kind?

Damien: You mean, what do I specialize in?

Toni: Well, yeah.

Damien: Well, there's a reason I broke out at such a young age. I was deemed as something of a prodigy growing up. My interest lied in so many fields that I became versed in a number of different things. Mostly genetics and technology. I am currently spearheading projects that range from genetics to robotics.

Toni: Anything specific? Or do you have to keep it hush-hush?

Damien: (laughs) No. Right now, I'm really deep in the study of forced cellular evolution.... controlled mutations if you will.

Toni: What good will that do?

Damien: none right now, but if we can push this who knows what could be accomplished.

Toni: like what?

Damien: Cures for diseases , for instance. If we could create a cell that consumes cancer or foreign bodies in the human body we could wipe out illness.

Toni: You said 'mutations'.

Damien: Yes, any changing of the human cellular makeup will require some genetic... modification. Nothing will be different on the surface, but inside...Wow. We could, even now, make a better human all around.

Toni: ( sarcastically) Wow...

Damien: This is all hypothetical now. Trust me, nothings gonna happen if it isn't proven safe. Currently, we are at a crossroads. There are things that CAN be done now, but the question is... is it morally right?

Toni: Is it, Damien?

Damien pauses. Noticing the accusational tone Toni is taking.

Damien: Toni. Trust me. I'm not gonna push anything I don't believe is right.

Toni: I'm not trying to... (sigh) Damien, you see the things I see everyday. Caped crusaders, fire-casters, some guy can jump over skyscrapers someone else can fly or shoot lasers. This world gets more and more crazy every day. Who are they, where do they come from? No one knows, but we're supposed to trust them. Why? Because they save us from others who do the same thing, but they're the bad ones. I don't know any of them from Larry, but I have to hope the good ones always win and the bad ones always lose and somehow, it's always been that way. It's too convenient for me to believe.

Damien: You're saying that my research in enhancing the human body will add to the problem?

Toni: I'm saying be careful before you end up having a part in creating a world no one is ready for.

Damien: (Coldly) When my world changes.. I adapt to it. That's how I am. That's how I've always been.

Toni: I like my world the way it is, Damien.

Damien glances at Toni's left hand.

Damien: Do you?

Toni stares at her ring...
