Chapter 2 - How she lost her way

The sun had warmed the earth, and as it crept towards the top of the sky, Greta tended to a garden near her home. The air was crisp and clean, the spring breeze rustling her silver hair. Her focus was broken by the frantic sounds of a tiny bird. Its desperate cries tugged at her heart, leading her deep into the forest to investigate. Unbeknownst to her, a concerned Esk watched nearby, seeing what she would do. The bird was shaken and frightened, its nest a scattered heap on the ground. Looking up, she could see a branch had given way.

"Ohh poor baby, let me help." She carefully gathered the twigs into her hands, pressing the nest back into a presentable shape. She saw a nice little nook above the broken branch, and stretching as far as she could, she wedged it there. Suddenly she felt a pop, her ankle crunching painfully as she reached.

"Oh no!" She cried, reaching down to feel. It was tender and painful, and she limped hurriedly out of the forest, eager to make it home before the pain overtook her ability to walk.

Ayla watched her, worried and grateful that the woman had helped the bird. She followed her quietly, making sure she'd get home safely.
