These are the things that are hoped for during a transformation.
The split second before Ayla drove herself mad, They were an island.

The sea of night swelled around them, a deafening silence welling, threatening to crush them beneath the suspense.

An island of spirits, the large one, seeming like the night itself, wiry and tangled, darkness expelled only by the tongues of flame that hovered near. The small one, new and fragile, darkness creeping at it's tail, ruddy orange climbing the neck into a pale face.

Fragile. . .

Too fragile.

An island soon flooded by emotion and turmoil. That moment however, for a fraction of a second, time hung in the air. Anticipation, the eager curiosity to see the new being. Unseen fragments of dreams and joy hanging in the air, as the flames for the other. Shattered, crystalline, empty.

The calm before the storm. . .

The night before the dawn. . .
