Hey, guys, long time no art. I've been prowling around the site for a few weeks, but haven't been able to post nary anything because of school and personal reasons. I've been kind of reluctant about posting this, just because I've grown to hate it with the endless hours I've worked on it. It is one of the pieces going on to the VASE State Competition in Houston; I may post the other soon, if I gather the time and motivation.This piece was something totally different and interesting to work on... it started in the downloadable program Alchemy as a flurry of shapes, but ended up morphing into some sort of reality reminiscent of the infamous Rabbit Hole. I get tired of the clichΓ© "Alice in Wonderland" pictures, though, so I ended up taking a more post-apocalyptic spin, making a composition that represents my view of fallout shelters.
Then again, I would really like you, the viewer, to decide for yourself what a fallout shelter is: a beautiful escape from the unavoidable Rapture, or a claustrophobic nightmare that bastardizes the broken home.
Excuse me for the formal language, I've been writing an essay, and just now took a break to post this.

An illustration for the new series of The Twilight Zone? [what ever happened to that, and 'One Step Beyond' and 'Out Of This World' SF series on TV? Why don't people make programmes like that any more?). It's a little reminiscent of the dream sequence from Spellbound [link] .

Spellbound was a Hitchcock suspense movie. The dream sequence is supposed to contain clues to the real life detective mystery that is going on. This is the bit of the film that Salvador Dali worked on.

The composition of everytrhing is amazing, there are so many objects it makes you want to look for everything, And then you have to look again because you're afraid you missed something out haha XD
The shadows give everything such an omnious feeling-- I was like "OMG why is there a shadow the- oh, it's a chicken-wind-thing xvx"
The contrast of the 'real world' to the 'wonderland' is also amazing (I NEED A THESOURUS orz), it looks like the real world is exploding so the figure is trying to escape, but 'wonderland' looks scary too +0+ No escapeee~ So that's what I think, which would probably be close to "a claustrophobic nightmare that bastardizes the broken home." ;v;
But also (SHUT UP MAD) YOU SHUT UP anyway but also, it could also be seen as the house has fallen into the ground and the figure is waving 'goodbye' with a white sheet O3O
I absolutley love the fishes, it calms down the atmosphere of the 'wonderland'
