More to the point: STOP F***ING TELLING ME CHARIZARD ISN'T A DRAGON!! I've seriously had it up to here with you BLIND IGNORANT FOOLS. Charizard is based upon a Western Dragon, can breathe FIRE, can learn several Dragon typed moves, is in the Dragon Breeding group and better yet, lacks the 4x ICE WEAKNESS.
ANYONE who tells me he's not a Dragon after me putting this warning here will be very coarsely attended to. YOU'VE BEEN WARNED.

I've kinda wanted to a Pokemon pic for a while, I just haven't got around to doing it before now. This is my ideal team for any of the Pokemon games. I'm working on Emerald (and soon Firered) to get me this team. There's only five instead of six because (anime based theory) people shouldn't catch legendaries, and I'm hoping that with the release of Diamond/Pearl, that there'll be a Dark/Dragon type! 
That one would instant Teamage!I think the forest looks alright, it was a bit of a challenge to get the filtered sunlight looking good though. And yes, I used the Adobe grass brush. Sorry, but I'm too damn lazy to draw all that grass on my own, especially when PS does it so well.
*EDIT 25/06/07* I'm too lazy to bother changing the original text, but yeah, I realise that all the D/P Pokemon are out now, and that they all pretty much suck. Except for Chimchar.

Charizard is a true dragon! I always chose him as a starter in the classic and remake GB games. Also Dragonite cuz he rocks!

dragons r my fav!!! and YES CHARIZARD IS A KICK ASS DRAGON CUZ IT DOESNT HAV THE WEAKNESS the only reason they didnt make it a dragon type (i think) is that i'd be too powerful of a starter evolution and prob because since it is one of the 1st pokemon they prob didnt even think about dragon types until later in.

Charizard's appearance is based on a Dragon, he can learn several damage dealing Dragon moves, and is in the Dragon breeding group. He's essentially a Dragon without the Dragon weaknesses.

Being an old pic, I had chosen the Dragons I liked at the time. I've never really liked Altaria purely because it's a perfect example of a dragon that shouldn't be a dragon.

you have a point when you say you don't like Altaria; but it's a Dragon anyways, and i consider it so, i like it. in a counter, Charizard is like the opposite of Altaria, looking like a dragon but it isn't.

He's pseudo-dragon, meaning he can still learn dragon type moves, and is also in the dragon breeding group. Not to mention his design is based on a mix between western dragon and medieval salamander. While we're at it, Gyarados is in the same category as well, being based on eastern dragons, despite being Flying/Water.

There's actually quite a few Pokemon that fall into the pseudo-dragon category, some of them a little surprising too. Charizard, Gyarados, Milotic, Aerodactyl, being the not-so-surprising. And ones like Tyranitar, Aggron, Rhydon, arguably share a lot of traits with more 'earth dragon' legends. Then theres Arbok, Sceptile and Seviper who are (strangely enough) in the dragon breeding group. Of course, there are also those that are dragon-type, yet look nothing like a dragon, Altaria and Lati@s being the main culprits there.
So despite the classifications the Pokemon world has, you can see things are very open to interpretation!

This may be a little late and random for you but I've always thought of Altaria as trying to look like the various eastern dragons, cause of the way they are both similarly depicted with clouds.
But I can accept that I'm just insane and am the only one that see's it that way, cause everyone else just sees a cotton swab bird lol. XD
The snakey pokemon being listed in the dragon breeding group may be drawing from Norse legend, where all the dragons are pretty much giant venomous serpents.

I can see the whole thing with the clouds going on, but the major thing for me is that it has a birds beak and claws. It's more like an eastern Phoenix than a dragon, and to that end, I believe Pkmn Creative team just slapped Dragon typing on it 'coz it *looks* semi-legend based.
But as far as pseudo dragons go, there are certainly some interesting ones out there, and I happened to be nerdy enough to actually go and categorise the darn things into 1st/2nd/3rd class dragons.

True enough, but eastern dragons are supposed to have eagles claws anyway, but I agree the beak and feathery tail do make it less of a dragon. It could pass either way for me. XD
I'm still scratching my head over the Lati@s myself, If they had normal arms and legs instead...jet engines? They'd be ray winged dragons I guess. (a less commonly depiction for western dragons).
(I like nerding out at pokemon and dragons that's one of the reasons I started poking you lol cause I knew I would probably get a fun response).
