I remember hearing that in Pokémon Ruby (I think that was the one, it was one of the older games) when you encounter him he apparently makes a “Mew” like cry that makes the whole cavern tremor

Just found this www.youtube.com/watch?v=cMtvx6… (comparison of N64 Pokemon Stadium cry and smartphone Pokemon Go cry) and www.youtube.com/watch?v=28vTA4… (GameBoy Pokemon Blue Cry) (I hope it's allowed to link youtube videos here, if not I am very sorry.)
For Pokemon Stadium one and two they had a company "translating" the gameboy voices to n64 voices (I have a passion for such things like sound effects or music so I think those details a pretty interesting). I remembered the feeling hearing Umbreaons+Espeons voices the first time on TV and I also felt disappointed because of Lugias voice, which I like on GBA more than on N64.
But after these two games... they used old scratchy gameboy-voices again, which sound really weird on gamecube! I mean... updated graphics and then game boy (!!) voices...
And yeah, you are right. Mew and Mewtwo really have similiar cries. Compare them in pokemon blue and stadium. And it makes sense to give them so similar cries/voices. You'll never hear that in those movies...

Yeah like in let’s go Mew and Mewtwo’s cries are the classic ones, and Mewtwo’s really is just a slightly deeper version of Mew’s
