I think Mewtwo was more startled by the sound his own vocal cords produced over the sudden pop
this is why he speaks with telepathy

I wonder if he’s physically capable of speaking human language, I guess if Meowth can then he’d probably be able to....he just wouldn’t want to, telepathy is easier XD

Yeah, I've always found that interesting - how Pokemon like Meowth can speak, while there are many psychic Pokemon that have mouths but simply don't speak using their actual voice. They usually just stick to the sound/name of their type. Now all I'm imagining is MewTwo hovering and saying ...
