Description
An incredibly important alt version of this is available over here !Because paws.
You can't say no to that.
You just can't.
It's a law of physics.
Hey, you! Like anthro chinese crested dogs and/or amphibians? Then why don't you
check out more pictures with Jinjing-Yu (and Adreea) over HERE ?
Expect more simple, pawsy pics like that, because I happened to want to make more of them, and I shall make more. So expect more. Because paws. In fact I was just working on another one,
but took a short break and decided to post this one. So go ahead and expect more of this. I am currently sick, so working on something bigger is not very easy anyway. ._. Although I do have
something very inspired started. C:

I don't know when Tchai will comment but it's going to be a while.Β But this is a dog foot.Β Jinjing-Yu is her name and she's a Chinese-Crested dog .Β These dogs have actually been deemed the ugliest dogs in the world but Tchai has done magic to make his creation very cute.

well I'm sorry but the weird lumps on the feet and the bubbled texture, and I have a negative view for a lot of the art (feet, models, fat women drawings). and yes that's Asriel's faceΒ Β

I wouldn't say it's rude. A lot of anthro is suppose to be unsettling, in which case your comment would be complimentary. I don't know what the artist was going for, but I doubt they're oblivious to the fact that this is disturbing to a lot of people.

"A lot of anthro is suppose to be unsettling"Β Why is the combination of human and animal meant to be unsettling?Β If I said for you to look at an age-old mythical creature, of Greek Origin, of a man and a bull (Minotaur).Β Would you still believe that it was meant to disturb people?

EmperorMegas In reply to Randochi [2016-10-09 14:37:01 +0000 UTC]
It didn't say it's 'meant' to be unsettling (I even said I didn't know what the artist's intentions were), I said it's 'supposed to be' unsettling. I'm not speaking to the creator's intent, I'm speaking to the psychologival nature of 'The Uncanny Valley' (Google the term if you're unfamiliar with it). It's just a thing with people.
As for classic Greek mythical creatures like the Minotaur, if I remember correctly he was a murderous creature that slaughtered people in the center of a labyrinth. I'm pretty sure that character and story WAS meant to disturb people.

Supposed - assume that something is the case on the basis of evidence or probability but without proof or certain knowledge.
Meant - intend (something) to occur or be the case.
You could flip flop on either word.Β Basically the same meaning.Β I don't like the grammatical phrase suppose to be or supposed to be.Β So I said meant.Β If I conveyed the wrong meaning from your example my apologies.Β I'm just trying to ask a question.
What I was asking is why are a lot of anthros supposed to be unsettling?Β Your argument is saying "A lot of anthro"... many anthropomorphic characters are supposed to be unsettling.Β But generally, I don't think anthropomorphism is unsettling.Β I think it's just merging two characteristics together.Β What you're talking about, about this uncanny valley thing applies to 3D a lot of the time.Β But I'm quite immune to the feeling so I don't get affected like most do.Β Most anthropomorphic characters don't go into the valley, so that's where I wanted to ask.Β I'm just curious about your train of thought and opinion about the subject matter.Β Your comment popped out at me and I was very curious.
When I asked about the minotaur it might have been a bad example to convey. I was more or less a question asking if you thought that Minotaurs are unsettling, not what folklore explains about them.Β Your explanation is good. Thanks, glad to had learned something.Β But change the example.Β What about a sphinx, a satyr, a centaur, or a mermaid?Β These are all anthropomorphic and if they're unsettling I'm just curious why so in the future I can understand the discomfort.

Im sorry, I didn't see the second half of your reply when you asked about the other mythical creatures.
Honestly, few of the more common (or rather more 'popular') mythical creatures are unsettling to me mainly because I'm so used to them. However, it's worth noting that the more realistic in appearance they are, the more unsettling they would be to me.
Mermaids are a good example. I think mermaids are creepy as hell. Disney's Ariel isn't disturbing in the least because she's cute and cartoony, but the more realistic looking mermaids like those in say a Boris Vallejo painting...yeah, that legit creeps me out.
I'm not even kidding. Realistic looking mermaids are nightmare fuel to me.

EmperorMegas In reply to Randochi [2016-10-11 07:14:51 +0000 UTC]
I'm sorry if I didnt explain myself well. I can see how it may have been confusing.
For clarity, by 'supposed to be' I'm speaking to the inherent nature of the how people naturally perceive things that fall into The Uncanny Valley, irrespective of the intention on the part of the artist.
By 'meant', I'm speaking to the actual INTENT of the artist to evoke a particular response to their creation, i.e. what he or she was 'meaning' to make people feel with their artwork.
This probably isn't the best example, but think of it this way: You're 'suppose to' fall down when you trip over a toy that your child left on your steps -- that's simply the nature of gravity -- however, you weren't necessarily MEANT to fall down, as that wasn't necessarily the child's intention when they left the toy on the steps.
