Description A squad of delta force operatives moving cautiously through a hostile environment, staying out of sight of enemy patrols.

Just some practice with a tortillion in shading and smudging the camo pattern.

Delta Force (Also known as 1SFOD-D and CAG) are always better.

that's a difficult argument to make, as i believe all SOF units are as good as each other, with each bringing their own specialties and capabilities to bear

thanks! and yeah no helmets, better situational awareness and mobility, don't expect to be in a firefight for too long.

time it took me to do this? about, say 2 hours?

Awesome artwork! Like I said below, I like how intense it feels, like they really don't know what could happen next, but are ready to react to anything from any direction, and move on to their objective, wasting no time.

The detail is great too.

Personally I think your drawing technique is excellent, but the posing is quite exaggerated. Their legs are sprawled out as though they're in some over-the-top action sequence but currently they're just standing at a corner. Try not to have them so low perhaps. As well I think I should note the first guy right of center appears to have no neck.

thanks for the critique. i'm still learning and have much yet to learn, this was sort of a rough sketch that i ended up finishing. i did realize that some of their pose seemed exaggerated and almost awkward.

Gringr-Brezns In reply to TChenArt [2013-04-04 15:16:40 +0000 UTC]

Still, it's very good, and given something more intense the poses would be much more appropriate. Keep up the good work

I'm sorry, but I'm calling BS mate. Please don't take this real personally or anything-I'm just offering counter-point(s) to your statement(s):

I highly doubt any tier 1 operators are going to leisurely stand around corners or not be in on "something more intense." Being ready to detect and react to threats that pop up PROBABLY requires one to physically be in a "ready stance." Runners and swimmers don't take ready stances just before a race for nothing. But in the case that this piece illustrates, you could have people shooting stuff just a wee bit more lethal than a starting gun...AT YOU AND YOUR MATES. I could only imagine how intense a tier 1 mission is. If you're standing more upright, you probably couldn't have as good control/freedom of movement for your weapon, and therefore fail to eliminate an enemy who has just, or could detect you and your team. You couldn't be ready to move in a moment's notice if you have to haul your rear end somewhere-yesterday, to cover, or away from enemies.

I think the point of this piece was to illustrate the intense nature of a covert mission behind enemy lines, and stances like this make me think that this is almost like a split-second snapshot of their objective-minded movement. Less "exaggerated" poses wouldn't convey that.

I wouldn'tΒ  rule out that a technical in the African, Middle east, Central and Communist Asia (i.e. anywhere there may have been Soviet influence at any point in the area's history) would mount a DShK. Basically a Russian big fifty. Soviet's have a terrible track record of keeping heavy weapons and gear out of shady hands and still openly export such equipmentΒ  to anyone not deemed a threat and has the cash. Β  Β
