Description
Tanktober / Inktober Day 6 prompt "Husky"It's not like the US couldn't design a heavy tank in WW2, though there were plenty of problems getting any of them to work, and another headache of how to transport and supply them, and by the time a few M26 Pershing arrived in Europe as the heaviest tank the Americans could field the war was already over.
But with the new threat of Soviet heavy tanks pushing further westward, highlighted by the imposing IS-3 heavy tanks that led to a panic among the Western Allies to come up with an appropriate counter. The British would answer with the Conqueror, and the US Army debut the M103 in 1953.
Armed with a 120mm cannon designed to eliminate enemy tanks from extreme range (requiring two loaders to service the two-piece round), well-protected with thick armor and weighing 62.5 tons, the M103 was the last Heavy Tank used by the US military before they moved to Main Battle Tanks like the M48 and M60, while the US Marine Corps retained their M103s with their Marine tank battalions until 1973.

My experience with this tank was mostly through World of Tanks, which isn't highly rated compared to its competition.
Which is a shame since this is an undoubtedly cool looking beast of a machine.

It's a lot longer irl than this, which I just shortened a bit.
I bet it must feel amazing to be sitting in that TC's cupola and surveying the size of your big stick before you.

The Cold War was a dick measuring contest between the two superpowers, after all.

It was pretty much a massive dick measuring contest from 1945 to 1991.
