Description
Butterscotch (c) Me!Yup, I've had a new character banging around my head lately. I plan to show more of her in the future, but for now here's a nice standing image of her. This character is an odd combination of inspirations that can be found to have a root over at the Housepets comic (www.housepetscomic.com/ ). Of course, inspired by the comic, I had to come up with my own character suitable for the world. Of course after I was done I realized that I would never use her there, so I altered the style a bit so she could fit into a standard "furry" world. I mean sure, I could fan-fic her into the comic, but I've done that once already with Ponies, don't need to go crazy with another one, ya?
Anyway, she's a Dachshund mix breed and college student. She's studying forensic sciences in hopes of joining the police force, as encouraged by an officer who stumbled over talent. Specifically she has an incredibly powerful and sensitive nose, allowing her to track people and animals with an incredible accuracy. Unfortunately her usual bubbly personality doesn't really gell well with most police, and apparently she's inadvertently bumping a few other officers who were eyeing the spot that's now being reserved for her. So she has a few enemies she's made unknowingly.
Anyway, enjoy what I have so far. When I get another one done, I might even explain how the bloody heck she got the name "Butterscotch", which is only partially related to her actual fur color (which is the appropriate color for the name). A quick shout out to Sashi for helping me name her tho. ^_^
As always, comments, critiques, and feedback are welcome and encouraged!

Lessons Learned: Hands are still hard. Feet are still hard. Dachshund heads are a flipping nightmare. I've been working for two weeks to get that head right, and even then extreme angles stump me. I did have fun adding a little touch that most folks won't see, but other artists might: I intentionally modified her proportions to suit the type of dog she is. Her waist/torso is slightly longer than it should be, and her legs and arms are slightly shorter than they should be. Seems appropriate given how long bodied and short limbed Dachshunds are...

Aye, she is. And while I can't say they are my favorite dog breed (mostly because IRL I'm a cat person, and dogs like the way I taste), I will admit that they can be incredibly cute sometimes.

Cool design. I haven't seen many Dachshunds in the furry world so it's nice to see something new. You're pretty good about doing that.

Thanks. This one was a pain, but she's also such a striking character visually that she's a lot of fun in the other hand. Glad you liked it, and don't worry...Β with a nose like her, she's SURE to find trouble.

You're welcome.
i hve a dog and he's always letting his nose get himself in trouble. Several skunk sprayings and a few close calls with raccoons and possums and hasn't learned his lesson. So, it doesn't surprise me that her nose could lead her to trouble, especially with you nudging her that way.

But of course. AND the fact she's an aspiring police-dog means she has a built in set of naer do wells already waiting for her.

That's cool. You should do a pic of her in uniform. I think she'd do it "justice".

She's not actually a police dog yet, she just works as a civilian contractor from time to time to help track criminals.

Well. Most of the modern american cartoons are that style, but B & Mr.W is one of the bests IMHO, though the two main chars (the snob and the coarse)Β would be unbearable IRL in opposite ways. But as comedy chars they are fine.

TCPolecat7 In reply to Limpurtikles [2015-02-03 11:36:34 +0000 UTC]
I think I see her character as being too bubbly to have much of a temper. it's there, but she's more likely to be verbal about it than physical (which seems a good translation of the "yappy" type of dogs many Dachshunds tend to be).

The mouth looks a bit odd, as if you left out the lower jaw and just left the tongue. Perhaps I'm looking at it wrong.
π: 0 β©: 1
TCPolecat7 In reply to Lashblade [2015-02-02 22:51:46 +0000 UTC]
The lower jaw is there. The problem with Dachshunds are is that they have a bit along the sides that hangs down over the lower jaw itself, all but hiding it. When looked at from profile, you can only barely see their lower jaw, and some angles make their lower jaw disappear entirely...
