Description So we now have a group here on DA to store some of our old Chainsman Institute stuff, and I figured I might as well post some of the pics I personally contributed (note, I didn't do my own color, so these will be in black and white).

In this case, it was a picture that never made it to the site. I did a number of these, specifically because I had grown a good bit as an artist in the years I was with the institute there, and I wanted to update some of my older pictures. In this instance, the staff of the division Tasha ran, the "Quality Assurance and Training" group, or QuAT for short. Grimbor, who ran the place, never posted my redos, he was more interested in new art than updating old ones... so I might as well post some of those that didn't get up.

Of all of them, this was my favorite. Mind you, this was done back in 2004, so there's a bit of a skill gap between this and where I am now, but I still liked how silly this was. Catty Nebulart (the short one there) and Erika Slate (the sitting one) were the unofficial mascots of the group, for very different reasons. Catty was a hyper and bubbly woman (yes, she's a woman, just short and youthful looking) and Erika was dour and hated everything. Thus they were polar opposites, perfect for being the two most recognized individuals of the group.

So when Erika refused to smile for the new staff photos, Catty took it upon herself to "help". Yeah, the mouth stretch is a bit overly cartoony, but I found it a lot of fun to do.

I thought Arnie did the whole Chainsman thing.

ARNie, Suichi, Sebastian, myself, Nomad, and writing for the site was Chainsman himself. We had others come in and out, but that was the core of the group for a while.

Who is Sebastian? Am I missing out on a really good collection?

He mostly posts on his own website. What little presence he has on DA is here: madpuffins.deviantart.com/

That outfit again...
That is pretty damn funny. I always enjoy the opposing forces of super hyper happy and great grouchy grumpiness.
Makes for some good comedy.

Of course, that was the QuAT team uniform.
And thanks, that's what I was going for.

Like I said, a bit overly cartoonish.

Man, all these pics from Chainsmans Institue makes me nostalgic; it was probably the first site I ever went to for, you know, stuff like that.

*chuckle* Well I'm glad you liked it then, and now.

They look like a good pair. They can keep each other on their toes and truly test themselves against such an opposing force.
I like the silliness of this scene too. It has quite a cartoonish feel that I've really only seen in some of your more recent works. There's been humor, but not quite so...Looney Toons.

*LOL* Well yes. it's a little exaggerated, but it was, at the time, very much experimental for me.

I'd say it worked.

The 'cartoony' look amplifies the death's head glare better than a 'realistic' approach would have, imho.

That aside, lovely pic.

*chuckle* I agree, personally. It made for a very interesting pic, regardless.

actually. if this was taken at Chainsman institute she could have been latexified which means this wouldn't be cartoonish at al

Nah, I never went into that whole latexification thing. That was more ARNie's bag...
