Description Hello everyone. It's been a while!

Here is the progression of my new mech Jack The Ripper. Really, it's just "The Ripper" but "Jack" is it's model name. It's just one of a few versions of this mech that I will make. I drew a picture of this a couple of weeks ago. (I would share the original drawing with you but I do not have a working scanner). I started with the arms and I did not save as many steps as I would have liked. So you'll see some pretty major jumps in progression here and there. It looks about 98% like the drawing except I had to change the placement of the guns on the model. I did this model yesterday.. and I have not had time to add some more things. I still need to cut out the cockpit and put in a control center for the pilot. Hopefully I'll get to that some day soon.

Awesome job. I'll bet those cannons can tear up some opponent's mechs. Long Live The King! and welcome back.

Thank you!! I have not even checked the polys on it. Haha! I will post some info in another render when I'm able to get back to this.

Not bad, but I'd love to see the legs try to support something that weighs that much.

I sense new techniques... he looks at many parts roundier than your usual. woudlnt be better to give him an inner toes on the feet? he would get better balance

TDBK In reply to jackmcslay [2006-03-10 21:10:55 +0000 UTC]

Thanks man. Well maybe.. but I wanted to keep a decent amount of space between the legs for easy animation.

jackmcslay In reply to TDBK [2006-03-11 01:27:11 +0000 UTC]

animation?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TDBK In reply to jackmcslay [2006-03-11 02:48:26 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I'm going to animate this along with some others after I make them. Now that I got the hang of it in Lightwave.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

jackmcslay In reply to TDBK [2006-03-11 22:29:19 +0000 UTC]

yeah i've been want to do animations myself... I dont think i'd go into large-poly a lot so I wont buy a prog... ant it seems the only free prog for good anims is blender, but that thing is really weird O.o
but for now i'm crazy about trying to learn crystal space [link]

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TDBK In reply to jackmcslay [2006-03-12 03:38:22 +0000 UTC]

Hey interesting looking program there... I did not read too much about it but would it be easy to use that for animations only? No coding? Or would I have to be a friggin' hacker to use it? hehe.. About blender, I cannot stand that program at all.. the interface is crap and it can drive a person insane! haha!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

jackmcslay In reply to TDBK [2006-03-12 12:50:25 +0000 UTC]

yeah I still coudn't figure how to edit a shape in that blender thing...but I'm keeping it anyway, it might be useful for format conversions.
and I don't think crystal space would be a really hot thing for plain animations... you certainly woudn't use it to create character movement, but I believe there isn't other way than coding to make characters interact... and it you wanted professional looking anims, not animations that look like game cutscenes, there will have to be additional hacking. I woudn't recommend it for someone who doesn't know how to work C++

specially that for some reason they refuse to include binaries, I spent a whole day to figure out how to compile the damn thing haha

TDBK In reply to jackmcslay [2006-03-13 19:24:16 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I guess I'll stick woth Lightwave for animations. I had to get Lightwave to work on a project for a TV show. I never thought I would get into it but it is really a great program for the price.. now that I can use it!! haha!

History Channel. Just did a pilot show. It's nothing amazing really for my part. Just made some models and quick animations. Still fun though!

Niceness

lots of guns is what i always like to see, although the 'waist' of the mech looks a little thin, but that maybe just me.

anyhow, its good to have you back, was starting to miss the kickass stuff you produce

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TDBK In reply to ulyses [2006-03-10 21:23:14 +0000 UTC]

Thank you man. I know what you mean. The waist needs to be kinda' thin for animation. I could do it thicker but then I'll have parts running into other parts and not enough movement ability for what I want to do.
