The net effect is that all tree dwellers will naturally will have simian-like advantages, and even the non-tree specialists like the wolves were at least as able to climb as well as a large clumsy bull gorilla. Most ungulates wouldn’t be able to, because their back hooves would give them no traction, although mountain goats should be an exception. Not only can they climb trees as well as any open face cliff, but with hands can cross overhangs! A huge advantage in evading a puma who could not follow without advanced climbing gear. (Retractable claws would be a big hindrance in getting fingertips in those tiny spaces, very painful in fact.) I imagine some very clever ones may even use chalk or talcum they dug out to help them keep their grips better. Having a hooflet capped fingertip is a big advantage to start with, but keeping the palms dry always helps more.
