or: what kind of vicious creatures send little innocent puppies to space and let them rot? or they'll think that's a threat like leaving horse's head in one's bed. anyway if i were an alien i would expect humans to send me something more significant than a dead dog. mhh.

I think they'd wonder why we tracked down the ashes of a satellite and its dog after they reentered the atmosphere and rebuilt them into Sputnik 2 and Laika before shooting it off again, this time beyond Earth's gravitational pull.

If I was an alien, I'd be pretty confused.
