Fantastic image! Really nice pose and hold.

I've got my first commission for next week at a Gymnastics tournament type thing to take pictures for the club. Do you have any tips that you could share? I guess I'll need to get good shots as no-one else can use cameras because of flash restrictions etc. I'll be shooting with the Nikon D50 with the kit lens 18-55mm.

Thank-you very much.

I have found that the pictures look better if shot from a high ISO I shoot most of mine at 1600. I do shoot at ISO 800 and an apature of 1.8 with one of my lenses. Also depending on the event or move that you will be trying to capture try not to drop below 1/400th of a sec sutter. You can shoot lower but only if they are not moving much. I shoot most at about 1/800th or faster. I have a web site dedicated to two College Gymnastics teams that I have a buch of photos on. Feel free to have a look and ask me any questions I am more than happy to help. Here is the [link] the pictures are in the media pages.

Nice picture. I somehow always forget to try to get the pirouettes, stalters and endos. Silly me. It looks a little soft what ISO are you using?

Err wait maybe it's my monitor. I just realized my unprocessed ones in 3200 look soft. :-P

This Picture was taken at ISO400 on my digrebel xt at F1.8 and 1/250 shutter. It looks soft from the noise editing process that I use.

1.8? Are you on the floor? The only lens I can think of with a 1.8 are a bit wide.

Nope, it is an 85mm lens but with the 1.6x focal multiplier of my camera it is really a 136mm.
