Sable now has greater control over his semblance than he did previously, partly due to experiences during the fall of Vale and partly due to his team and his friend Argent... who also happened to accidentally burn his left sleeve off. (Character by Jymaru found here: jymaru.deviantart.com/art/Arge… ).
Besides all the usual things he could do with it, he can now also heal a little with his light, by using it to accelerate cell regeneration. Combat-wise, he experienced a certain event that specific night of the Vytal Tournament that put him under extreme emotional duress and as such, ended up uncovering a newfound semblance function during the extreme emotions he was feeling at the time.
Named "Leo Mode", it's triggered by such emotions which cause extra semblance energy to leak out from his arm and gauntlet. This energy, instead of dissipating like normal, lingers and builds up with his subconscious forming this buildup of energy into the image of a roaring lion around him.
Anything and anyone hit with this buildup suffers devastating effects, but after usage, Sable's aura is completely drained. Such is why he tries to keep his emotions more in check during battles.

The red cloth around his arm is the cravat he previously wore around his neck.

While previously, he always tried to look his best, those feelings have all but left. He still cares for his appearance, but not nearly as much as he previously had.
