Description
Dedicated to Julia who has her birthday on October 23rd!Every since I've met Julia I've been in awe of her fabulous work as a traditional artist. She really does put her heart into every piece- there is so much compassion and passion, that I feel the energy intently! She's also such a sweet person, with a big heart!
When I was a little girl, I strongly disliked "bugs" of most all kinds, (except for maybe ladybugs and butterflies... )
But I have to say, that the older I got, the more and more I have grown to respect and appreciate them, and even see them for their own unique beauty!
I would love to know more about insects, and take better photos of them, but at least now I can work with them and in around my garden with no problem. I don't even worry about bees, because I don't wear anything that would attract them. As long as I'm not annoying them, I know they won't annoy me. I am having good luck with this.
Anyway, this is one of many visitors I had in my garden late this Summer/ early Autumn, and we had a great time! I was really in amazed by his fabulously perched self!
Small Feature for Julia:
Dear Julia,
Thank you so much for your friendship!
I wish you well in your ongoing effort,
and I hope you have a great year ahead!

"You Are So Beautiful"
~Joe Cocker
You are so beautiful
To me
You are so beautiful
To me
Can't you see
You're everything I hoped for
You're everything I need
You are so beautiful
To me
~~~~~~~~~
It's important to know this NOW, as I may NOT be able to do individual thank-you's for
And, if you just came to view, I appreciate that, too.
Thank you so much!
(You know, I just now noticed that, when I clicked back on to this particular photo... I am just now returned to dA after being gone, almost 4 weeks... and I'm so sad to see that her account is deactivated, and I just don't know why. )
I've never seen a bug this color. I'll admit he's pretty but I don't care for bugs very much.
I'm ok if they keep their distance. I respect their right to be here but if one lands on me I freak out. Very good photo btw!
I have not either, it is one reason I felt it needed to be photographed- that and it was holding fairly still.
It's okay... you don't have to like bugs... (do you like how I gave you permission? )
I really can relate, as actually I was quite terrified of them, as a child, even from a distance... like if I could see them, then somehow I was being extremely harmed!
I have somehow gotten over this a LOT,
however, I do admit, I do NOT want one ON me... I don't think I would get over it to THAT degree.
ANyway, I do thank you lots!
Thanks for the permission! Meagan has always liked bugs and she loves to "torture" me with them. When Meagan was still going to high school I drove her and her friend to school on my way to work. One morning I felt a little tiny tug on my hair. Meanwhile Meagan and her friend were laughing their heads off. I put my hand to my hair and felt a huge bug. I started screaming "get it off, get if off!". By this time they were practically rolling on the seat they were laughing so hard. I was freaking out and trying to drive at the same time. I knocked this huge thing out of my hair and I could see it on the window. It was a katydid (a huge grasshopper) They said it was in my hair for a long time pulling on little strands of hair but they were just waiting to see how long it would take for me to realize it. Apparently it went out the window because I didn't see it again. It scared the *#%& out of me.
They kidded me about that for the longest time.
And that's the famous bug story.
Umm,,, hmmmm... if it is, or if you know way more about insects than I do, could you tell me if you are pretty sure that it is??
Once in a while I can photograph an insect fairly decently, but I am not an expert in this area. I guess I could do a google image search on your likely very educated guess!
THanks!
I'm not certain but it does look a lot like an Asian Longhorned Beetle. I'd have to see the top of it to be more certain. They're more of a problem around the North East coast but if you spot them you're supposed to report it. They aren't indigenous to the United States and have caused detrimental damage to a lot of trees and forest areas. Just something to consider should you come across them.
Nice! I like the perspective and the color! Perhaps this is a type of "stink bug?"
I was terrified as a boy of all the flying & stinging insects: bees, wasps, hornets. But also any flying insect larger than a common housefly, including dragonflies! I sure missed out on a lot of "friends" back then.
Glad we both got over it!
Thank you so much Ray, it means a lot to me!
You could be right! I thought it was some sort of beetle, but honestly, I just don't know... I wish I did...
Stink bugs I've known in the past, mainly when I was little, seemed a LOT smaller, but for all I know, there are various sizes. Are there? Hmmm.
Oh yes, I guess we both missed out on a lot of friends back then, glad you got over it, too!
