I hear nothing but complaints about Illustrator -- how do you like it as a tool? The "graphic artists" at my company I think don't really understand how to use it properly. Some of the things they did to our proposal art were ... pretty sad.

It's not too bad as a tool. The biggest advantage is being able to change the size of any work in it to whatever you want w/o quality loss since it's vector based. The biggest diffrence in like drawing in it, is you use points and adjust their bevels, so you have to plan a little on where to drop a point and how much of a curve to put on it, yadda yadda.

It is a bit different, but for text and making shapes, p-shop doesn't compare, though it's been getting better.

It's a bit of a pain in the ass to learn, but once you get the hang of it, it's cake ^.^

That's odd that you have graphic artists at your company that don't understand it. I figure'd it was almost required for most graphic jobs these days o.O

Well, I think what it is is that they're trying to use it for some publication art that really doesn't require it. For example, we gave them a bunch of Visio sheets that contained a diagram and several tables per page. They tried to implement all of that in Illustrator. Yes, even the tables of data. Either it was the wrong tool for the job, or there was a better way to do tables in Illustrator than the way they were doing it. They would whine about every little change we made to those tables because it takes hours to do things like ... insert a row.

(PS - interested in maybe refreshing a pic you did for me back in 2001? You've improved so much, I wanna commish you again )
