Description
I'm so glad I still managed to finish it before the deadline. This is my entry for the Give the Gift of Art Challenge. Tools: gray pencils, yellow pen, black penThis drawing is meant for a person who I really appreciate. And this person is my father's best friend. You see, when this challenge came along I remembered something I already really wanted to do for someone special. My dad's best friend is an amazing supportive guy + he's true and loyal. When my father went through his lowest point in life, this guy was there for him in every possible way; he could comfort my father in ways I could not. I was really glad my father had a friend like him.
But something very sad and tragic happened to him and his 2 kids; The mother of his children (eventhough they weren't married anymore, they still respect eachother) died at the age of 50 because of cancer.
I honestly didn't really know how to respond, I barely knew the woman, but I did know I wanted to do something for Toon (that's his name). You know you can't do much, but I promised him, since I knew he had always really liked my drawings, that I was going to make a personal drawing in memory of her, and of course, when it was finished, I'd give it to him.
Now it is finally finished.
In the drawing you see 2 female characters in some kind of purgatory; the left one represents Jorie (that was her name), the right one represents death (in the form of an angel). The angel has come for her, to take her away from her life on earth, while human hands still try to hold on to her. I tried to create a sort of empty look in the eyes of both the girl and the angel, because I don't really know what kind of face you could make in this kind of situation. I guess in some way you are really glad that this person's struggle and fight against an undefeatable sickness is over and that she can finally be at peace, but on the other hand you'll be extremely sad that this person's life is taken away from herself and her surroundings at a way too young age.
Yes it is a bit of a sad story.. I'm very glad I made this for him though, because he got so happy and emotional when I told him what I was working on. I guess such a personal gift of art can have that effect on those people who appreciate it. Eventhough you might give someone a piece of paper in the end, they'll know you've spent hours to design and create something personal for them, which is quite a special gift, isn't it?

Aww.. That's very sweet. You did the best you could for him . And sometimes cancer is beatable, but other times it takes away.. In a way, you can be a little glad that she didn't have to go through all that pain even though it hurts she died from it. She's in a better place now and is always watching her family, she's happier now and at least in that they and you can take comfort.
