ewww, fish reproduction. This one is 6x12". It was sort of a practice for a larger htdb canvas I want to do.

Hmmmm....my inking influences are pretty much anyone and everyone else. I took one comic class in school and was utterly wretched with the inking. So I've avoided it till just lately when I started trying again.

This particular piece, the lines were built up from me trying to make a nice smooth curve. I hold writing utensils in the Grip of Death cause my hands are kinda shaky, so I have 0 chance of making a nice, thin curve. Hence the proliferation of boxy shapes in my work. Haha, learning about my methods totally destroys all my mistique! l:

What does HTDB stand for?
ah comic class on inking? Was it taking like popular trends in comic book inking? Or was it a bit more covering the bases of Inking. When it comes to inking.... well, there isn't really a easy way to start out. I mean it's complicated, someone can easily explain the ideas of Cross Hatching but then how does Scott Williams use Cross Hatching to get the effect he does? [link] Through out the years, I gave up a lot of inking concepts and just tried to used a lot that I learned from Painting and apply them to inking. Sometimes I skip inking all together and use photoshop instead. I love to see grains of the led or the paper or even smudges on the end pieces. As long as the medium doesn't feel limited then I feel I can advance as an artist

I remember I had a teacher who told me, "The only way you can become a great artist is if you can draw a straight line." So I had that just etched into my mind for a lont time. I've been growing out of that theory and slowly have been improving. I use like cups or tin cans in order to acchive round edges. A friend of mine has this handy bending tool that he can use to get french curves.... Who cares if it's a tool, it gets your job done. That's what matters ^^

Hentai Tentacle Death Bunny, dude.

All's I took was the basics of comics class...we did a little bit of inking stuff, like 'here's a ruler, learn how to draw borders, losers'. I hated it. French curves and circle templates are the bane of my existance, cause I just can't make em work. I agree about applying painting techniques to inking. I didn't start inking until I'd already started painting. It helps. But yeah, I love seeing smudges and specks and whatever happens while making something. Perfect clean art bores the hell out of me. So hurray for us non-ink perfectionists!

I know what you mean. Something about working with rulers feels so akward. I mean you have to plan everything in advance with etensive amounts of perspective. In the end you get a rather cold and sterile look...... definatly is over rated..... PERSONALLY, I perfer rendering it out in 3D instead just to get it done faster :] Hey, isn't a ruler no different then a computer, it's a tool :] It gets the job done.
Still, you have a beautiful line style. It's cracked out delicious ^^

Yeah, that's it!! You're brilliant! Cause it always starts with like one tentacle, and then before you know, the page is filled with them and you can't even tell what they're violating anymore. That *must* be how they reproduce! *suddenly it all makes sense*

Ok that makes me sound *way* more familiar with tentacle sex than I actually am. Oh well. That facehugger comic was hilarious! I didn't realize that was how they got their babies in people...I can only imagine the storyboard session that led up to that point.
