Well, they actually can work that way with Stardock's ModernMix program

Really? I did not know that. I may have to look into that. I wish it came like that but if you can do it yourself that works too.

The bad thing is, it's not for free - but it's a nice start, I think you can try some 30-days trial. It's still interesting to see, to see windowed Metro apps.

Definitely, I greatly like the idea Microsoft has i just feel like they are not executing it right. I feel like they should have taken more time and asked more of the major users how they liked it, and went from there.

They went wrong in some directions, mostly removing the startmenu and the general focus on tocuh when like no one has a touch-based device. A bit more desktop love wouldn't had hurt them, but well ... let's hope that the future won't continue this way.

Yeah expecting people to buy new devices or suffer was a poor move they should have made a touch OS and a are a redesigned more professional feeling OS for the people with older electronics. Alot of stuff is just recycled windows 7 stuff witch feels lazy

Yeah, the fusion of touch and desktop wasn't the smartest move, two seperatd systems would have been better but well - it ends like the usual cycle: Windows 98: Good; Windows Me: Fail; Windows XP: Good; Windows Vista: Fail (i still liked it); Windows 7: Good; Windows 8: Hmm, fail; Next Windows hopefully good again

Yeah I don't know if you have heard of windows blue, coming later this summer, but hopefully it fixes all of these problems and makes Windows a good desktop interface again.

I heard about Windows Blue and ... well, rumors to completely remove the desktop. Hope that won't be true, that would probably lead to the end of Windows for Desktop PCs.

If they take away my desktop I am gonna go back to 7 or get a mac or maybe give Ubuntu a shot. The desktop application in 8 is the only reason I can use it the majority of the time I don't even go to the start screen for anything but to search for programs to run on the desktop.

Same here, the start screen is more used to launch programs on the Desktop. The only useful Metro app would be the Mail app, but with ModernMix, it's also on the desktop, so the start screen is not really nessesary

True story! I feel like if Microsoft really wanted to incorporate tiles and a metro design they should have done it in a way that did not hinder the way you operate your computer because what they had before worked great it did need a few tweaks but it worked.

They should have released different versions for different purposes, like Windows 8 for Desktop (without that touch stuff), maybe Windows RT for Tablets and those (with the touch toys) and Windows Phone for Smartphones (i still want a Lumia, but they're simply way too expensive ) - that way, everyone would get new stuff without facepalmin' over every new stupid step.

I agree completely, the have been a company of options and now they are pretty much telling you what to do. They don't take into mind that the people prefer choices more than actual products and they have removed the choices. BTW I have the 920 and it is an amazing device. I recommend it 100% I love it.

I tried the 920 on the Cebit in Hannover earlier this month, it was pretty nice (even tho I just got a short chance) and the Windows 8 stuff - it's way ahead of time, the world isn't ready for touch-based PCs yet.
