Okay, I think this is acceptable as a final version. I have learned so much while working on this, I think now I have to go on and apply my newfound knowledge to other images.Thank you very much everyone for your suggestions and hints -- through your help this has become a much better piece than I could have ever managed alone.
While I can still see room for improvement, I have decided to draw the line here, otherwise I'll never start another picture again.
I might still tweak it a little if I decide I forgot something important, but so far this is it. Thanks again!I will also do a desktop wallpaper version soon since a few people mentioned they'd like to have one.
About the picture: I wanted to do a married Sesshou/Kagome in a more courtly setting. This might be set in the far future where they have a large court and a lot of social and political responsibilities. This is them either unwinding from or getting ready for a day full of intrigue and veiled power play -- I wanted to capture an intimate moment on the edge between powerful miko/youkai ruler and their more private persona where they're simply a couple who are comfortable with each other.

this is very beautiful...maybe its just me and you definitely can disregard this since its so nice but um her lips...the shine is so strong it kinda looks like her lip gloss is under her lips as well...maybe I think this cuz her skin is darker but it still looks great!! *paniky over here* so you can disregard that its just my thought...

Sesshomaru looks like a vampire. This looks like one of those professional game art things you'd find for Castlevania.

I gotta say I couldn't tell it was Kagome. Maybe it was the style, but it doesn't look much like her.
Other than that, I think this is an awesome piece. I love the style. Looks like it was done with those really expensive pastels or pastel paints.

I wish I had a pen/tablet. I still just have a mouse... Tried to find a pen, went to Best Buy, they didn't have one. They just told me I 'might' be able to get one in town (good hour commute). Why the HELL wouldn't they have JUST the pen (what they had came with a mousepad and mouse and whatever else was needed to get the price to 99 dollars. I'm a freakin artist I should've told them....I'm poor... ha ha. But this is a great pic. I love all your fanpics because of your style. I thought this was finished until I read the description. Looking forward to the finished picture. Hey, I'm also part way into that fanfic you recommended a while ago (not that much into fanfic as a rule, mostly because I really don't have the time, but the one you mentioned is pretty good).

I love this picture, the way the color fades away makes it seem so romanticly mistical. the difference in skin color makes the passion seem to radiate from the two. thank you for sharing your art with the world

I really love this one. I really want to learn a more realistic style, like this one, but I'm rarely satisfied with how they come out. Do you use models or are they just out of your head? Oh, and by the way, maybe you were just saving them for later, but you forgot to put Sesshou's facial markings on.

Sometimes I use photo reference as a guide, but I have no reference for this particular picture at all, which makes it hard to attain a degree of realism.
The marking will be done later.

i do like it alot & the back round is cool just the way it is. but the light hitting them, its a little off. it looks as if its coming from the right, and on kagome's chest, it looks like its coming from the left a little. besides that its perfect!

WOW! It's such a beautiful drawing!! Kagome looks breath-taking and Sesshoumaru looks absolutely delicious! Hehe 
As for suggestions....maybe it's just me, but Kagome's lips looks like its a bit dry, maybe softening the lip lines (the vertical ones, in case I'm not clear) near the corner of the mouth...well I dunno, I'm probably just going crazy, don't listen to me. Hehe, well totally AWESOME picture, I'm a big fan of the Kagome/Sesshoumaru pairing too!! Keep up the great work!

Thanks a lot for the suggestions... I think they might be inside a large keep, so if there is a window -- or an open shoki screen, it might lead into a garden. But I don't really want to overload the picture, so I might go with a wall after all, and maybe some drapes. *scratches head*

I really love how detailed this work is, the colors you chose and the way you've done their faces is just beautiful. I think a small suggestion I could give would be to smooth out certain details, most of the picture is very soft and smooth, so the rougher bits sort of stick out uncomfortably. I think most prominent would be Kagome's eye, but Sesshoumaru's are also a little rough. I'd also add in just a little bit of clearer detail here and there, around the lips and nostrils perhaps, and smooth out the flower in her hair. Sorry if nothing I said was of any use; I have to rush and didn't have time to look through the comments you've already recieved XD;;

i love kagome's earing and sessshoumaru's lips
although kagome's lips seem odd---i think there's too much of a dark pink in that one area, it sort of makes it seem like she's got a sore at the corner^^
and sesshoumaru could use a little more volume to his hair i think^^
but very niiiice^^

Wow! This is coming along gorgeously.
Kagome's hair looks weird. The actual braid doesn't seem to be hanging as it should. The hair on the nape of her neck also looks a bit off. Also, Kagome's lips need a little fixing. For some reason it seems like they are flower petals and not lips. I think it's the highlights, there is too much. Makes her lips look a little too frosted. Her earlobe also seems off, it doesn't look like it would support her earring.
Sesshoumaru's lips also look a bit frosted, but it actually looks better. Sesshou's right eye looks like the black leaked onto his eyeball, or it's just me. I reserve any other thoughts on Sesshoumaru because it looks like you might have worked on Kagome a little more then him.
But next to that, this is going to be awesome!

It really is lovely. My suggestion is to think Kagome's top lip a hint. she has a slight Angelina Jolie look, that you might be going for... I would prefer it thinner though. Also, Seshomaru's reddish eyelids? they are grey now.
All in all, this is breathtakingly beautiful. I can't wait to see improvements, though you could stop here and most viewers would be happy as can be.

Your realistic style of drawing is so refreshing when put to these characters.. most of the fanart I see of them is anime to the max. Your soft coloring is always amazing, too. I can't find anything to critique.. lovely job, I can't wait to see it finished~

I think the only "suggestion" I can give is to make sure people don't read the scenario for your "Tied" piece before looking at this picture. Because now I can't stop giggling.

So now all I can do is stare at the braids and grin like a silly doof to myself. XD
I think one thing that's bugging me a little (I always have this problem when I do drawings, too) is that Kagome's head looks a little on the small side, but I think that's only because the hair is still unfinished.

The only thing I could possibly think to say would be perhaps darken the shadows a bit, but since it's a work in progress, you may be doing that already. lol. Keep it up, though.
