Description
This is the second submission discussing love interests/relationships in my Earth 53 continuity. If interested to read the first installment see here: technomizer.deviantart.com/art…Maxima - Oldest daughter and heir to the royal throne of the planet Almerac Queen Maxima despised the idea of an arranged marriage, especially to her betrothed, Lord Ultraa. Despite the powerful name and strong family heritage Maxima found him weak and unworthy of giving her an heir. Soon before her unwanted marriage however Almerac came under threat from the warlord Mongul and his moon-sized ‘Warworld’ weapon. In a trial by combat to save her plant Maxima battled her way through several trials in Mongul’s gladiatorial arena on Warworld before proving she was the strongest warrior he had ever faced. While he was attracted to her she did not feel the same, given she had managed to best him, but to save her plant she agreed to be Mongul’s prisoner/champion if it meant Almerac could be spared. During this time she fought with many more warriors, besting them and finding no suitable match for her until the arrival of Superman, the last son of the Kryptonians. Not only did he manage to best her but Maxima found Superman to be far more handsome and worthy of being her husband over Mongul, partly why she helped the hero escape and temporarily shut down the Warworld. After their escape however Superman made it clear he was spoken for, angering Maxima enough to want to kill whoever it was who won Superman’s heart. Out of fear for her harming anyone on Earth Superman abandoned Maxima on a nearby civilized plant to find her way back to her people. Before she could however Maxima instead found the Czarnina bounty hunter Lobo. Whether due to his ruthless behavior, his strength, his detachment towards those weaker than him, or all of the above Maxima instantly became infatuated with Lobo. The two formed what could be described as a “destructive yet stable” relation which they’ve kept to this day. While Maxima has yet to bare any children with Lobo she’s not made any attempts to return to Almerac as of yet, content to roam the galaxy with her “Main Man”.
Roy Harper - During his time with the Young Justice group Roy Harper had become romantically involved with his fellow teammate Donna Troy/Wondergirl. While reaching its complications at times the two had remained close while trying and failing to keep the relationship a secret from their friends and mentors; the approval varying among both the Young Justice and Justice League members. After Terra’s betrayal of the team to H.I.V.E. during the “Judas Contract” incident Roy had been maimed and lost his right arm in the aftermath, he and Donna trying to maintain a relation after but finding themselves drifting over time. Even after Roy had now gained a new prosthetic arm and called himself “Arsenal” and joined the new Outsiders group in Blüdhaven the two did not rekindle their relation. During his time with the new team and tracking the actions of the League of Shadows in Blüdhaven Arsenal soon crossed paths with the assassin Jade Nguyen/Cheshire; who was later revealed to be the estranged sister to his fellow teammate Artemis. Flirtatious with nearly every meeting they had it became clear to Roy Cheshire had an attraction for him he slowly, if begrudgingly, began to share. When involvement with the League became more hazardous Cheshire came to Roy for help in secret which he agreed to in exchange for information about the League’s activities. While trying to keep things professional Roy and Jade soon became romantically involved, eventually leading to the birth of their daughter Lian. While only Artemis knew who Lian’s real mother was the rest of the Outsiders and Roy’s friends and family were told she was Roy’s child with a “one night stand he regretted” to keep her safe. Over the years Roy, along with frequent visits from Jade and the aid of Artemis, raised Lian on his own. When the “Shadow War” broke out years later Jade gave her daughter and lover a final farewell in the fears that she would not return. While no word has been heard from Jade Roy still holds out hope she’ll return to him and Lian safe, proving that despite their past and her profession he does indeed treasure what he has with her.
Kathrine Kane - Living under the shade of Colonel Jacob Kane had made Kate’s sexual orientation more of an issue. While both her parents were aware of Kate’s attraction to women her standing as a military daughter and one of Gotham’s socialites warranted more discretion than anything else. She held a few secret affairs in her youth before her mother’s passing, needing to maintain a “professional outlook” for her family’s sake. Soon she’d met GCPD detective Renee Montoya, the two have a secret affair that last for over a year before the two were forced to breakup; mainly due to Kate’s travels overseas on family affairs as well as her eventual training as the Batwoman. Upon her return to Gotham Kate had learned that Renee, now a lieutenant, had apparently had a brief but publically ousted relation with Metropolis transferee Captain Maggie Sawyer. While it had pained Kate she dealt with her, turning her attention to her crime fighting pursuits. In time Renee had discovered Kate’s secret but never reveled it to anyone. Not long after Renee had become involved in an investigation with the mysterious vigilante known as “the Question”. She disappeared for nearly a whole year and worried all including Maggie Sawyer who went to Kate for questioning. Despite having no answers Sawyer continued to visit Kate before the two began a relationship; both feeling bad for betraying Renee. Thanks to Maggie and Bruce Wayne’s encouragement, the latter having been Kate’s friend since childhood and eventually revealed as the Batman to her in secret, Kate publically announced her homosexuality and her involvement with Captain Sawyer. Not long after Renee returned, now the newest to take up the mantle of the Question. Now devoted to her own causes she had only wished Maggie and Kate the best of times before leaving on her own “conspiracy pursuits.” Kate and Maggie continue their relation to this day, even after Maggie discovered Kate’s identity as Batwoman and her promotion to police commissioner of the GCPD, with talks of a marriage proposal soon to come.
Kyle Rayner - Before his induction into the Green Lantern Corps Kyle Rayner, an arts major student in college, held a stable relation with his girlfriend Alexandra “Alex” DeWitt. While finding him immature at times Alex and Kyle maintained a healthy relation until Kyle was chosen to be one of the new Green Lanterns of Earth. This required him to be taken to Oa for training, something he initially refused before Alex’s coaxing permitted him to do so. He promised he would return as soon as he could and Alex, remaining faithful, agreed to wait for him. During his time on Oa however Kyle soon became interested in fellow Lantern Corps member Soranik Natu, whom he later discovered to be the daughter of Sinestro. Despite his promise to Alex Kyle began an affair with Soranik which they held until Kyle’s Lantern training was complete and Soranik, in the relief efforts to rebuild from the Sinestro Corps War, had to return to her home planet of Korugar. Upon returning to Earth and reuniting with Alex Kyle confessed his affair which angered Alex greatly. For months the two did not speak to each other and Kyle considered leaving for Oa again to serve in space instead of Earth. However Alex eventually came around and, while still working things out, both have attempted to rekindle their relation.
Harvey Dent - Before his horrible disfiguration turned him into the dual-identified criminal Two-Face Harvey Dent had a stable and loving marriage to his wife Gilda. Knowing how busy his job as Gotham’s DA would keep him she remained steadfast and loyal to Harvey the entire time. After the attempt on his life by Salvatore “Sal” Maroni had caused Harvey’s more violent side to show Gilda became more feared of her husband, legally divorced him, and moved as far from Gotham as she could get. It pained Dent to no end until he had met Gotham Detective Renee Montoya. So much of her reminded him of Gilda that Harvey, or at least Harvey’s stable personality, became infatuated with her. At time he compromised his actions and information to her in the hopes of building a relationship with Montoya, only to eventually learn the truth that she was homosexual. Enraged by Montoya’s “betrayal” Two-Face tried to blackmail her with proof of her sexual activities, she refusing and he leaking the information to the press. Despite the deed Harvey still felt jilted and broken more than ever, turning to his “justifiable criminal activities” as almost a form of comfort. After several incarcerations into Arkham Asylum Harvey Dent was given a new psychiatrist to treat him, Dr. Grace Lamont. While initially despising her like the other doctors at Arkham Harvey soon found himself more and more drawn to Dr. Lamont for her compassionate yet tough personality. It seemed clear to him she held a possible interest in him as well but due to past experiences and an already dueling mind he feared to fully confess. In recent years however it seems clear Harvey’s emotions towards Grace have influenced his actions with his gangs, performing more menial and humbling tasks to equal to the bad. Perhaps through Dr. Lamont Harvey may finally find the much needed stability to regain his whole former self.
Jason Todd - While being trained as the second to carry the mantle of Robin Jason had found himself attracted to Barbara Gordon/Batgirl. However his suspicions of her romantically attached to Dick Grayson were what held him back from ever confessing his true feelings to her. After being crippled by the Joker however Jason seemed to hold the biggest vendetta with the Clown Prince of Crime, the attitude being his downfall when he was killed by him not long after. When Jason returned from the dead, thanks to Ra’s al Ghul’s Lazarus Pits, he returned to Gotham now with a grudge against Batman and the Joker but still held his feelings for Barbara. When his identity as the vigilante Red Hood was revealed he learned too late that she had some interest in him when he was still Robin but had since moved on. After leaving Gotham and establishing his own team called the Outlaws Jason soon came across Rose Wilson/Ravager. Rose eventually joined the team and throughout their travels the two have become romantically involved; if in a harsh yet loving sort of way. Both having father issues and growing in harsher conditions than most they seemed to gravitate easily towards each other. They do not however let this interfere with their leading of the Outlaws team itself.
Danny Chase - While under the persona of both Phantasm and later joining the Outlaws Danny Chase never expressed his homosexuality to anyone, mainly out of fear for how the others would react. In time as he got comfortable around his fellow teammates like Jason Todd, Rose Wilson and the spirit of Greta Haynes, they proved to be more accepting than he realized. However Danny was surprised to find his subtle flirtations with his teammate Tyrus/Power Boy were soon returned. Despite being from Apokolips Tyrus expressed his interest in Danny due to how his obnoxious, arrogant and sometime condescending manner towards others reminded him of the many gods he grew up with on his home planet. Much like with Rose and Jason the two try to keep the relation professional, despite several instances where they will condescend or ridicule others for trying to judge them whenever intimate.
Louise Lincoln - Before the tragic accident turned Professor Louise Lincoln had worked for S.T.A.R. Labs along with her fellow scientist and romantic interest Dr. Martin Stein. She soon learned however he did not share the same feelings for her and in fact was soon to marry his future wife Clarissa. Despite feeling spurred by him Prof. Lincoln tried to maintain a professional composure during her time with S.T.A.R. Labs. When the accident that affected both her, Stein, and lab assistant Ronnie Raymond, the latter two becoming the first incarnation of Firestorm, Louise tried to make the accident more of a connection to her and Stein; adding that their opposite powers could attract each other. Further rejected and now effected by her mutation Louise Lincoln, now calling herself “Killer Frost”, began a criminal career with an apathetic outlook towards humanity and Firestorm especially. As Killer Frost Louise had several flirtatious advances towards other villains in the several teams she joined; including the Injustice League, Secret Society and Suicide Squad. These flinging romances included Mick Rory/Heatwave, Chato Santana/El Diablo, Garfield Lynns/Firefly, and even Claire Selton/Volcana. During her time on the Suicide Squad however two relations have actually stood out the most for Louise, mainly her interests in Colonel Rick Flag and the humanoid King Shark. During the many missions they served together both Flag and Shark had caught her interests outside of her vampirism need for heat, both being strong and ruthless but with Flag it was for the greater good while King Shark enjoyed it due to his animalistic side. The night before one mission with the Squad Lincoln made advances towards Flagg that were rejected, her attention turning to King Shark and the two making love than night. The following mission however King Shark was slain and Frost felt heartbroken. Wheather a need to keep his teammate in-check or due to a general caring about her Flag comforted Louise as best he could. While the two have yet to fully declare anything to the other it’s apparent there is some mutual attraction between them; whether it grows from there remains to be seen.
Billy Batson - As any ten year old boy growing up with the powers of the gods Billy Batson, secretly the superhero Shazam, had never given much thought to girls or relationships. His attention, as one would expect, was focused on helping others with his newly gifted powers and other childish things. Over the years however as with all people Billy’s moods began to change with age. While serving as a member of the Justice League Billy had found himself attracted to other members such as Wonder Woman, Hawkgirl, Supergirl, and Vixen. True enough some of his female teammates were attracted to him as well but under the assumption that the form of Shazam was his real form. Fearing the truth would be revealed Billy never pursued these attachments. Eventually reaching freshmen year in college Billy attended several classes with a “witch girl” named Lori Zechlin. Discovering she was part of a group of girls who dealt in black Billy warned her against using it knowing how dangerous it was. She and the other girls laughed him off but out of his good natured heart continued to keep an eye on Lori especially. Eventually Lori, having a deeper connection to magic than the other girls, tapped into a rare ability to steal the supernatural abilities from others to power herself. In using this for her own goals, calling herself “Black Alice” as an alias, she sought revenge on all those who wronged her. This gained the attention of Shazam who battled with her several times. Much like with Bruce Wayne/Batman’s early encounters with Selina Kyle/Catwoman, both Shazam and Black Alice battled while having something of a flirtatious conflict with one another. And as it turned out Lori soon began to develop a crush on Billy which he shared. To this day neither knows the others true identity, both Shazam and Black Alice trying to convince the other to turn over a new leaf with them.

I'm a sucker for love and romance, so I'm glad you did another thing on Love Interests. I totally agree with you about bringing back Lian Harper. I like the idea of a "destructive yet stable" relationship between Maxima and Lobo. Killer Frost's flings with heat-themed villains were quite amusing as well and I like the idea of Jason Todd's "harsh yet loving" relationship with Rose. I hope that there's a third part!

Thanks so much And yeah, there might be a third installment in the future. It depends on what character romances I haven't mentioned or looked into. Usually the more complex history of relations of the character the better. lol
