A green twinkle, like a falling star, came rushing towards earth from the blackness of space.

It zipped with such immense speed no other space vehicle would be able to match it. Any who would have been able to catch even the closest and briefest of glimpses of it passing by would recognize the source of this light, the object flying through space like a meteor, was a Green Lantern ring.

Chasing after the ring, however, was something much larger and encompassed in red light. As the two objects passed through a bunch of asteroids, the Green ring merely flew around them, the red light smashed through them. The red object was the ring of a Red Lantern, but it was not on its own. The creature wielding it narrowed its yellow eyes as its target proved to be very fast and hard to catch. It even tried blasting it with a few bolts of red energy from its ring, but that did not even slow it down.

As if sensing that it needed to evade the creature as much as possible, the Green ring stopped and waited until the creature came close enough. Once it did it tried to reach for it, only for the Ring to produce a large flare of light that blinded it. Taking the opportunity the Ring zipped off again towards its target destination.

The creature recovered in time, only to catch a feint glint of the Ring as it kept going, grunting before following. It was clear where it was going and the creature now understood why the ring was going there. It didn’t matter. Soon the creature and the Ring would finally reach the planet they were heading towards: Earth.

A school bus was driving through Jump City, showing on the side of it read “Coast City High.”

It eventually stopped outside the city’s Art Museum where the teacher, a heavy set woman with red hair, walked out first. She adjusted her glasses before looking to see they’d arrived, looking at the large stairway leading to the entrance of the museum.

“Alright, everyone.” She called to the students in the bus. “Everyone out and line up for a head count.”

With that the students began piling out and lining up in front of the bus. Among them was a boy, about 17 years old, with short dark shaggy hair and wearing casual clothing like the others; jeans, a white shirt and a brown vest. Once seeing the museum he perked up with a smile while adjusting his backpack.

As he lined up with the others he felt a bump to his left. He turned to see it was a girl with long dark hair, wearing a white short sleeves shirt and a green skirt. She had amazing green eyes that made him smile once he looked at them.

“Sorry, Kyle.” She said, knowing who he was just as he did her.

She waved it off and said “No worries, Jade. I just through you might be Roger and Pete trying to mess with me again.”

She gave a groan and said “Don’t remind me or those jerks. Did you hear what they did to Rick in the bathroom the other day?”

“I thought he’d never get all that gum out of his shorts.” Kyle said with a smirk, making her giggle a bit.

“Mr. Rayner!” both heard the teacher shout, making them stand at attention. She walked over and said “Did you not hear me calling your name for role or were you and Ms. Scott to busy chatting?”

He gave an awkward chuckle before both of them said “Sorry, Mrs. Landham.”

“Well see to it that it doesn’t happen again.” She said. She turned to address the entire class before saying  “I’m in charge with keeping you all I check and I except you all to show respect to me and to those who are allowing us this privilege. I want you all on your best behavior, understood?”

In unison they all answered “Yes, Mrs. Landham.”

She nodded before indicating all to follow her inside. As they walked on, Kyle stopped Jade and pulled her aside to the left of the stairs.

“Look at that.” He said, pointing out to the bay. “Titans Tower.” He stated, seeing it. “It’s so much more cooler to see in person.”

“I’ll bet the view’s nice and all.” Jade said. “But we should go, Kyle. We’re falling behind.”

“Aw, c’mon, Jade.” He whined a bit. “We might never get a chance to see it again. It could be blown up in some villain attack or we’d never get the chance to come back here or something.”

“You say that about every time we see Green Lantern in town.” She rolled her eyes. “Besides, I thought you liked going to see art. I’m surprised you’re not ahead of the group and wanting to be the first one in.”

“I like MY kind of art, Jade.” He said, pulling out a sketch book from his bag. He flipped through, showing his sketches, while saying “See? I mean really cool stuff. Monsters. Robots. You know, the stiff you see on T.V.”

“You mean the stuff only a dork like you could like, Rayner.” Someone behind said before snatching his book away.

Both Kyle and Jade turned to see the two bullies, Roger and Pete, they’d mentioned before. Roger was a lean boy with a black cap on and wearing a black t-shirt and jean shorts. Roger was a more larger boy with a shaved head and a ripped sleeved shirt and longer pants.

Kyle tried to reach for his book, Pete, the one holding it, lifting it farther away from him, while saying “Give it back, you creeps.”

“Or what, Rayner?” Pete taunted. “You going to make us, you little shrimp?”

Roger pushed Kyle away before saying “Yeah, Rayner. You think you can take us on your own?”

“Maybe I think I can.” He said, dropping his bag.

Jade held him by the shoulder and said “No, Kyle. Don’t do it. You could get hurt.”

“You heard the lady, Rayner.” Roger said. “You could get hurt. Maybe need a bandied or something for the boo-boo’s you’re going to get.”

Kyle seemed to hesitate as Jade said “Kyle, don’t.”

He looked more defiant now as he said to the bullies “I’m not afraid of you big ugly jerks.”

Both of them chuckled before throwing his book aside and gabbing him by the collar, Pete saying “Close your eyes then, ‘hero’. This is going to....”

“Mr. Collins! Mr. Torres!” Mrs. Landham shouted, making them let Kyle go. She approached all four of the kids before saying “Just what are all of you doing?”

“Uh...we were just making sure Rayner was alright, ma’am.” Pete said.

“Yeah.” Roger added. “He dropped his book and we thought he’d fall behind the group.”

She narrowed her eyes as she looked at them. She looked to Rayner who was picking his book up with Jade standing nearby with a worried look on her face.

Mrs. Landham looked back to the boys and said “Both of you with the group, now.” This made them rush off before Kyle stood with Jade, making Mrs. Landham walk over and say “Anymore slip ups, Mr. Rayner and you’ll be receiving a very harsh punishment. Is that clear?”

“Yes, ma’am.” He said before he and Jade rushed to join the group.

As they hurried, Jade said “Are you alright?”

“Are you kidding? I’m scared out of my wit. That doesn’t mean I’m mean I’m letting them push me around.”

********************

Sometime went by as ,inside the museum, the students were being lead through the different galleries by the tour guide.

As he went on about describing the history of each piece of artwork they were been shown, Mrs. Landham walked among the students, keeping an eye on them. Kyle and Jade were further in the back of the group and looking around as well. He stopped to look at an interesting piece involving different shards of mirror glass, glancing over at Jade and smiling to indicate he would catch up. She smiled and continuing with the group.

As he looked closer at one of the shards, the reflection showing the window behind him, he caught a sudden glimpse of a green twinkle in the sky. He turned behind him to look out the window itself, cocking his head to the side after seeing it again seeing it again but only larger. Before he could see it again, he was pulled aside, towards the corridor to the bathrooms, by Pete and Roger.

They slammed him against the wall before Roger said “You nearly got us into trouble, shrimp. We can’t have any of that.”

Pete cracked his knuckles before saying “Plus, we got to teach you some respect for that ‘big ugly jerk’ crack you made.”

Kyle only grimaced and said “Do your worst, creeps.”

They shrugged before Pete said “Well, you asked for it!”

Before the first punch could be blown, something crashed through the window, startling them and everyone nearby. The Green Lantern Ring zipped in-between Kyle and the bullies. They all looked confused before the ring blasted the two back against the opposite wall.

Kyle backed up against the wall as much as possible when the ring seemed to turn its attention to him. It floated a little closer before dropping. He caught it out of reflex and looked down at it. Seeing it better he knew for sure it was ring like Green Lantern’s.

“What the....?” he blurted out.

“Mr. Rayner!” he heard Mrs. Landham call out.

He looked to see her looking over the damage of the area, along with the students and the tour guide, looking horrified and amazed at this. Kyle just stood there dumbfounded before she looked at him.

“You’d better have a good explanation for...” she began before being cut off.

Something else crashed through the window, only it took half the wall with it as well. It landed so hard it made Kyle fall on his back and Mrs. Landham fall back towards the students. Everyone nearby looked horrified a the creature that landed and stood before them.

He stood nine feet tall and wore large red and armor with a black skin suit underneath. The armor had large shoulder pads, bulky gauntlets and boots that attached to shin guards. On the center of his large breastplate was a symbol matching the one on the red ring he wore. His face was bulky, bald and grey skinned. He had large teeth that showed when he growled, and large yellow eyes with a scar over the right one.

He looked about at the humans before seeing Kyle on the ground with the green ring in his hand.

He narrowed his eyes and said “Green Lantern. You will die!” before raising his ring to him.

Kyle ducked away before being hit by a blast from the ring, which was so powerful it scorched the floor and the nearby paintings. Kyle looked at this with shock before seeing the monstrous alien try again. Kyle got to his feet and ran for the door before the alien roared and chase him.

Seeing this Jade cried out “Kyle!” before he was already gone.

In the central park of Jump City, the Titans were enjoying the day.

Cyborg was at a grill he’d bought and frying up burgers, Starfire was playing catch with Beast Boy, who was in the form of a dog, Raven sat in the shade of a tree with a book I hand, and Robin was at the table listening to music from the radio they’d brought.

Cyborg took a whiff of what he was cooking before making a yummy sound and saying “Nothing better than fresh hot patties off the grill. All they need now is some of nana Cyborg’s secret sauce and we’re good to go.”

“How much longer?” Robin asked. “I’m starving already.”

“Give it time, Rob. You can’t rush good food.”

Just as Cy finished saying that, he pulled out a squeezer filled with sauce and dosed the burger on the grill.

Seeing this, Raven huffed and said “Right. ‘Good food.’”

A few more minutes passed before Cy called out “COME AND GET IT!” so loud that it startled Robin and Raven.

Starfire perked up, along with BB who had the ball they’d been throwing in his canine mouth, before they rushed over to join the others. Everyone but BB and Cy sat at the table as Cy brought the food over. BB jumped up to see this before turning back to his normal form and trying to say something. It was muffled by the ball still in his mouth.

“He hasn’t even had a bite yet and already he’s talking with his mouth full.” Raven joked.

BB spit the ball out and said “Dude! What happened to my tofu burgers I had? All I smell is meat from those things.” He indicated the burgers.

“Were those yours?” Cy asked. “I thought they were ones that went bad.”

BB groaned before Star said “You should try one of these delectable meat disks, Beast Boy.” Still chewing on her burger. “You may actually enjoy them.”

“For the hundredth time, I’m a vegetarian!” He exclaimed. “I don’t eat meat, nor do I want to.”

“What’s so bad about it?” Cy asked. “It’s not like you’ll blow up from it.”

Just as Cy finished saying this, an explosion came from somewhere in the city. They all looked before looking to Cy.

“What? I was just saying!” he said.

Another explosion happened before Robin said “Trouble! Come on!”

All rushed off to see the problem, Cy hurrying back to get another handful of burgers before running back with the other Titans.

Kyle was running through the streets as the alien was still after him.

Most of the citizens also started running away as well, for fear of being caught in the crossfire of this rampaging monster. The alien blasted a nearby car, making Kyle duck away as it exploded. He saw Kyle scramble away before firing again, hitting a fire hydrant. It burst upwards and water spewed everywhere. A nearby streak on the ground made Kyle trip and land on his face.

He turned on his back as the alien aimed his ring again before someone shouted “Hold it!”

Both looked to see three cop cars nearby with the police coming out and aiming their weapons. The alien turned as they fired, their bullets deflecting off a barrier that covered his body. After seeing their weapons posed no threat, the alien aimed his ring and created a wall of blazing red fire that matched his ring’s color. The police backed away from it, making the alien turn his attention back to Kyle who’d managed to run off again.

Seeing him, the alien created a wall from his ring with spikes in it, between Kyle and the rest of the street. He stopped before he could be impaled on one of the spikes. He turned, seeing he was trapped, to see the alien floating down towards him.

“Why don’t you fight, Lantern?” He said. “Perhaps the ring chose a wrong bearer. No matter. It will makes this all the more easier.”

He aimed his ring at Kyle, who huddled in fear of the coming blast. Before the alien could make his move, a blast from a starbolt from the side that knocked his hand away. From the other side, explosives from Robin were thrown into his face. Finally a hit from Cyborg from the front sent him flying back and into a nearby car.

Kyle looked as all the Titans jumped from where they were and landed in front of him. The wall from the alien’s ring faded away by this point, but Kyle was still looking in awe at the Titans standing in front of him.

Seeing the alien getting back up, Cyborg aimed his cannon again and said “You got exactly ten seconds to take that bad attitude of yours out of this town and away from this kid.”

Kyle was still looking as he said “Whoa...”

The alien picked himself up from the car before seeing them all and saying “More humans. And with powers as well. Good! Now I have an actual challenge!”

He picked up the car with his bare hands and tossed it at them. Cyborg blasted it into pieces before it could hit them.

Robin ran forward and said “Titans GO!” making all but Starfire charge off to fight the alien.

She kneeled next to Kyle and said “Easy, friend. You will be alright.”

Both she and Kyle looked when BB, in the form of an elephant, was pushed into a building by a large clawed red hand created by the ring the alien wore.

“You so sure about that?” he asked, just as they saw Robin and Cyborg charging in together.

Cyborg armed both arm cannons and fired them while Robin leapt from his shoulders and threw more explosives at him. The alien created a barrier that blocked both attacks. Once they stopped Robin, still leaping in the air, came down with his staff and tried to smack it against the alien. He only blocked it with his wrist before blasting Robin back against another car. Cyborg changed ahead and reached the alien, slamming his fists into his face with three punches.

The alien barely reacted to them before grabbing him by the head and saying “Pathetic.”

He gave a massive punch that sent him flying back against a wall. As the alien huffed with glory, Raven floated down behind him and concentrated.

“Azarath. Metrion. Zinthos!”

A tendril of black magic came from the ground under the alien’s feet and wrapped around his arm. Another wrapped around his chest. More came up and wrapped around his body until he was cocooned in dark tendrils of magic.

At first Raven smirked as her eyes glowed white as she held the spell on him, but then a red light began to seep through and crack the magic like glass. She tried to hold it but the red light grew and grew before bursting her spell away, making Raven fly back from the shock-wave.

The alien looked back to her, seeing she was down, before walking towards Star and Kyle. Just then a T-Rex burst from the nearby building and tried to sink it’s jaws on the alien. He only grabbed both jaws before they could clamp on him before pushing BB back and then firing his ring. It created a cage that enclosed around BB as he turned back to his normal form. He was trapped and couldn’t break it despite the different animal forms he tried to use.

The alien kept walking towards Starfire, who stood in front of Kyle in defense before firing her eye beams at the alien. He held up his hand and blocked all of it before she stopped.

“Interesting.” He said before his ring seemed to scan Starfire. “Ah. I see.” He said when it stopped. “A Tamerianian. I did not expect to see one of you so far in this sector.”

Starfire still stood defiant and said “Whoever you are, you shall not harm this boy or...” She stopped when she saw the symbol on his chest. “That symbol.....it is like the Green Lantern Corp.”

He huffed and said “The Green Lantern Corp. They are fail to stand up to the same power as the Red Lanterns!” he said triumphantly.

The Titans recovered from where they were, BB still stuck in the cage, as Starfire said “Who are you? And what do you want here?”

“I am Atrocitus! Leader of the Red Lantern Corp. And I am here for him.” He pointed at Kyle.

“Look,” he started to say “I have no idea what he’s talking about. I swear! I was just here for a field trip and the next thing I know this ring flies to me and then this guy starts attacking me!”

Starfire looked in his hand as he held out the Green Ring, making her gasp and say “A Green Lantern Ring.”

“Exactly.” Atrocitus said. “I have chased after it across nearly the entire galaxy! Now that it has finally chosen it’s new wielder, not a very impressive one, I will exterminate him. And thus shall be the end of the last Green Lantern!”
