Update: Changed Will's death date to 1928. Thought the time fit more with how well people traveled back then. Will would have more likely meet Ling around that time than the previous date.

New Hazbin Hotel OC! Why? Because I needed more adult characters to help my NG characters out occasionally. Also, I saw a few ideas about purgatory among fans and how folks get into Hell and wanted to jump in with my own ideas and theories on how Purgatory and transfer works in Hazbin. Lastily, is there a reason NOT to make a Hazbin OC?

My idea for Purgatory in Hazbin is people in Purgatory are souls in waiting. They exist in a world between Heaven and Hell. They serve and are assigned jobs until their final verdict. Some of these jobs include guiding the living or guarding something precious. Some are sent to do certain tasks to test them like school. They have some power of an angel and some power of a demon, this is to help judge on which side they lean towards. If tapped too much into their demon side though could result of them falling for good or extending their sentence. Doing more virtuous acts can lead them to finally be in Heaven. Some, like Will here, can be pretty powerful, but they still are bind to these laws.

Name: Willard De Vibora; He goes by the name "Will" or even "Willis" sometimes, since he likes that name. Sometimes his family members would call him that.

Name Origin: Willard is Hebrew and it can mean "Will" "Strength" or "Spirit". "De Vibora" is Spanish and it literally translates to "Of the Viper". So when you put his name together it can mean "Will of the Viper" or "Strength of the Serpent".

Age: I'd like to say he's somewhere in his late 20s, possibly 30s. Not sure of this yet since age rarely plays a part in Hazbin.

Race/Species: Ghost/Spirit in Waiting.

Ethnicity: Salvadorian on father's side. Irish on his mother's side.

Cause of Death: Mauled and shot by the gang he betrayed.

Sin: Used his trolley and even occasionally his car to transfer goods and cargo for gangs for an extra price.

Virtue: Reason why his soul is waiting is because he did try to escape that life and also to try and protect Liling from the gangs he was involved in.

Animal Based on: Color wise the White Lipped Island Viper. Will is more so based on the Feathered Serpent of Mesoamerican mythologies and a little bit of other mythologies regarding snakes and serpents in general.

Backstory: Willard grew up with his parents, whom he loved and was very close to. His father, originally a farmer from Salvador came to the states in construction. His mother, from Ireland, was a seamstress. Sometime when Will was a teen his father was killed in an accident. Willard tried to make ends me but being so young, he wasn't able to help he and his mother. His mother sadly passed away when he was merely 19. Some time later, he got work as a trollie driver, but it still wasn't paying much. As a result, he got into desperate measures to feed him and provide shelter. He began helping gangs in the local area transfer goods and services during the late evening. Will figured that he'd had nothing really to lose. If were to be killed by the gangs, it wouldn't matter. He was just another sap trying to get by.

A Butterfly in the Viper's Eye :

One day, he met a young girl his age. She was the daughter Chinese nobleman, highly educated and well classed. Something a mere trolley driver wouldn't match up to. However, the two were attracted to each other. Liling was her name and she was the little butterfly in Will's dull, dreary life that he needed to have the will to live and care for again. Liling envied Will's freedom. Him being able to travel and meet people of all kinds, having fun and seeing the world. She wanted to be free especially since she was forced to marry a man out of sheer nobile status and nothing else. Little did she knew that Will was about as free as the cable car he traveled. She didn't know about his involvement with gangs until it was too late.

Will knew it was only a matter of time before Liling's life would be endangered because of his involvement with the local gangs. He tried to escape with her, onto a tram he knew would take them to the nearest station, onto a train where the two would be finally free. Unfortunately, the local gang already knew of Will's infatuation for the girl, as they wanted her as ransom. When they were about to shoot Will for his betrayal and take Liling, Liling jumped in front of Will, taking the bullet. She died in Will's arms. The gang began to beat Will, when one of the lead members called Will's beloved a certain word (rhymes with wink), like a viper striking, Will launched at the gang member before being shot in the stomach.

Birth of the Serpent Driver and his Butterfly Keeper:

After they died, Liling begged for Will's pardon, despite him admitting to his crimes. She too felt responsible for Will's fate and wanted there to be some way to help pardon him. After much discussion and waiting, it was ultimately decided for Will to transfer souls to Hell via his cable car. He would occasionally be able to transfer souls to Heaven but he himself, wouldn't be allowed in Heaven. Only Purgatory, the world between worlds and Hell due to all the sins he committed, while Liling went to heaven. However, he is a soul in waiting as he did try to escape for Liling's sake mostly. He even admitted he was also planning on Liling escaping without him, just so she'd be safe from the gangs and free to go whereever. However a curse was put on him. Sealed within his soul is a sleeping serpent that punishes those guilty and anyone who is at his mercy. If he ever releases this serpent, Liling is the one and only one that that can tame, rechain and seal the serpent back within him. Each time he gives in his demon tendencies, the longer his sentence in Purgatory is.

Personality: Will is a bit of a trickster and light hearted man. Loves to scare sinners and some folks for fun. Behind his tired eyes and that smile that almost never leaves, is a broken man who longs to be with his butterfly. Will is kind to kids and souls of minor sin like sex workers, even those involved in gangs out of sheer desperation or lost path he once was. However, he also has his more sinister side. A brutal side especially to those who have tortured and killed the innocent. Molestors, murders and especially gang members who are proud of the stain they caused when they were alive, get the "deluxe treatment" from Will. After the local gang that killed him and Liling was brought onto his tram, Will finally was able to get his revenge.

Relationships:

Liling De Huedie: Willard's lover and Angel bound to him to control the serpent inside. Both are deeply in love with each other, having spend the night alone together. ; ) She's the main reason why Willard decided to give up being part of gangs, though he never liked it to begin with. His desire to protect her by escaping together was what kept him from becoming full demon. Though, true he should have stayed away from her to begin with, Will missed having love and true freedom in his life. Having little love in her life as well, Liling too desired to be loved outside her status and to taste freedom where she could choose what she wanted in life, something that Will could have provided had their escape plan worked. A strong willed woman, Liling took it upon herself and plead to those higher above to pardon Will, as she felt responsible for their fate and realize her own actions as well. The two long for the day they can finally be together forever. Sometimes they are allowed to meet with one another but only in Purgatory and only for a little while. Sometimes she sneaks onto his trollie when he stops on his break, where the two can finally have their moment in peace.

Charlie Magne: Will admires Charlie's attempt to redeem demons, having be a soul in waiting, he knows the desire to help people and knows not all sinners are all like Katie or Vox. "We all hurt and we all hurt someone." as he would say. Though, after waiting for so long to be pardon himself, he too has doubts towards the idea and there is sort of a grimance of anger if it works as he would feel he'd be gypped. (Why should a full on sinner be pardon but not him?) Still, this thought doesn't give Willard ill will towards the gal and if he meets a sinner on his tram that isn't so bad and truly wants help, he'll guide them to Charlie's hotel, not so much in hope that they will be redeemed but knowing they're more likely safe and cared for there.

Hazbin Children; Astral, Violet, Tilly, Calypso, Azha and Vasuki: Willard will bale them out from time to time. If he spots or senses something isn't right, he'll come along if he has the extra time and get them out of trouble. Will has a soft spot for kids being he always wanted to be a father himself. It's one of the reasons why Will is especially harsh towards sinners who have hurt children. Sometimes Willard will give words of wisdom to Astral and the other Hell borns, knowing they are mostly innocent and not down there out of poor actions like their parents and other sinners.

Extra:

- Will's demon form is that of a giant winged serpent similar to quetzalcoatl of Mesoamerican culture. The coloration of this serpent though is white and blue similar to the white lipped island viper found in Indonesia. In this form, he shoots lightning and controls the wind.

- This form makes Will about the same level as an Overlord like Alastor and Vox.

- Will's staff is alive and can turn into a full snake at will. In fact, a thing Will does when he doesn't want to tap into his demon form is throw his staff down, only for it to come alive and attack those who oppose him. His staff too is a mix of holy and demon power.

- Will has wings. The train of his coat can become wings and he can fly. This is an extension of his angel powers. He doesn't fly too often though since he has his tram.

- I picture Will's voice to be similar to Double Trouble from the new She-Ra and O.D. from Gatchaman Crowds. Just a bit more strain and soft.
