Description
You can't be in the genie-fiction-scene on DA long without running into Shantae, everyone's favourite half-genie-hero. And of course, that lovely fan-created addition to her franchise, the snakey shopkeeper named Tuki. Now, artwork featuring Shantae and Tuki in all manner of situations is hardly new, but comparatively rare are pictures depicting Shantae using one of her transformative dances to become a Naga like Tuki herself. So, this is my attempt to do just that, imagining what changes a "Naga Dance" transformation would produce in Shantae.
This is the result - it's mostly traced from artwork of Tuki and Shantae themselves, but pulls together nicely. I removed her ears and gave her hair a thicker and shaggier quality, borrowing one of Tuki's odango 'tufts' to help complete the look. The patterns on her tail and arms are derived from her hip-guards, and the tail-rattle is inspired by her canon bracelets. The bracelets seen here I adapted from her earrings.
So, what powers would the lovely guardian of Scuttle Town gain in this form? A strong and agile tail to start with, perfect for climbing sheer surfaces or ensnaring potential foes. Then there's that heavy golden rattle at the tip of said tail, ideal for blugeoning enemies, immobilising them with the venemous sting at the tip, or charming them with the seductive chimes it can create. And like all snakes, she comes with an inbuilt mesmeric gaze, and a natural slippery sinuous grace...
So, this is Naga Dance Shantae. Still sweet and kind, but a little wilder, a bit more predatory, and a hint more dangerous. But rest assured, she's still the same person at heart, and wants nothing more than for you to trust in her, relax, gaze into her ears, and drift into her loving, snuggling embrace...

Dude, knowing that you like and approve of this piece is like praise from Ceasar! Shantae and Tuki are great designs in of themselves (congrats on getting your character canonised and annoited with a massive fan following) so it made for a fun evening to find a happy 'middle-ground' between the two.
And yeah, the hairstyles were particularly fun to mix together

I love it~
Your reasoning for the look is a fresh take on the Shantae naga transformation, and I approve of the touches you put into it.Β It shares the same color scheme I went with in my own pass at the concept, so there might be some bias on my part.Β
I was really hoping that Tuki was gonna grant Shantae a Naga transformation dance as a late game prize for collecting some number of McGuffins.Β I figured its primary benefit would be to enhance other dance transformations in some way (though my concept made this leap in logic because of an extra pair of arms allowing for more complex and intricate movements).Β There was also less mobility due to a lack of jumping and slower ground speed, but I had an idea that she could extend the length of her body up to a point and could then reach higher & farther platforms in a way similar to how Rottytops can teleport by tossing her head.Β
Your ideas have further inspired my traversal concept by also allowing her tail to cling to points on surfaces which will let her pivot the remaining length of her coils.Β This offers a lot of puzzle potential, like having an overhanging ledge that leaves Shantae to far away to leap down and back over to another ledge that's tucked underneath and behind the higher one.Β Β
Sorry, I'm rambling now and wandering off on a tangent.
I'll taper it off here by saying your rattle concepts are creatively brilliant, and I would love it if something similar to this naga concept shows up in Seven Sirens.

Dude, no need to apologise - it seems we approach character design with the same approach - think (and over-think) out every detail
I'm honestly surprised that nobody went with this approach to a Tuki-style Shantae Naga before, so its nice to feel I've done something that could be called "original" - if tracing and copying elements from two characters' official designs could be called "original"
The rattle was a fun addition though, and kind of last minute. I added it because I'd not bothered to draw a pot or container, which left room for something to fill the negative space to the right of the page. The brainwave was realising I could reappropriate Shantae's inconic heavy bracers as rattle elements, at which point it became a no-duh concept that just had to be carried through to completion
All in all this made for a fun and creative few hours, and was not something I'd been gestating on for ages - honestly I'm wowed both at how well it turned out, and by the very positive reception it has recieved from awesome folks like yourself and the others who have commented below

No more topless than Tuki is (or Shantae in some of her own transformations), but I can see where you're coming from
This did come out pretty close to looking like something Wayforward might have made though, and I'm really happy about that.

I think it's a pretty solid concept. You take the adorable and sexy parts of the character, but also add something a little more mischievous and sinister to it without detracting from the core that we all know and love. That, and the colors are neat.

Thanks - part of my motivation was that other attempts I've seen to draw Shantae as a Tuki-style naga just copied Tuki's whole body, right down to the colour-scheme - the result almost looked like Tuki dressed up in Shantae cosplay - and so I wanted with this to create a look more natural to Shantae herself. From your reaction it seems like I've suceeded

Apparently she does have an semi-official Naga form - it was proposed for Half-Genie-Hero but never implemented.

I've known about that form for a while and am somewhat sad it wasn't added in game. It would of been pretty hilarious if Shantae learnt this transformation from Tuki since it would be a Naga teaching someone else to become a Naga. I don't know, I just have a wired thing for that kind of irony.

There have been discussions as to a story to go with this piece. Tuki is definately involved, but the current question is whether this transformation was one she herself taught Shantae, or one Shantae taught herself after studying Tuki's own dances - imitation is the sincerest form of flattery after all

I'd read it! I mean it's Shantae (Who I love a lot) being turned into a Naga (Which is a species of Monster Girl I love) possibly because of Tuki (Who I shouldn't love as much as I do given she's not even a major character in cannon but still consider her a waifu anyway for obvious reasons) so yeah, no surprise that I may like it.
