Description **UPDATED**with all me thanks to =SageGoat for helping me with the placement of the wings on the skeleton in a anatomically correct looking way ^^ and Thank you to everyone one else who sent me helpful links you guys are awesome. i couldn't have done it without you!

i will finish this study with the rest of wings and tail included and maybe even through in a musical diagram as well.

i'v been thinking of doing this skeleton study for a long time and so far so good but i have been putting it off because i have no idea how to attached the wings in an anatomically correct way so i have a LOT more study to do and its getting late tonight so its off to bed.

if you can think of a really good reference link it my way, any help would go far for me ^^ thanks every one.

i was hopping that the finished product will help other people with Anatomy issues, it's so hard to come by proper skeleton studies i found, is it the same for you?

Will you finish the hands an feet aswell? This is great and I'm sure it would help and inspire many people that are struggling with anatomy. I'm always looking at your drawings when I'm working with the anatomy of my dragon Morpheus that's still a work in progress. By the way, how did you come up with the name "Amethyndra"?

Love how you attached the wing-bones to the body, well done! But maybe you'll need a bigger sternum to attach the muscels that move the wings, a bit like a bird maybe?

Two critiques, will redline when I get home later tonight (hopefully!)

Looking great! I love the line quality and shading on this whole skeleton.

Completely regardless of the wing structure which I'm afraid I can't help you with, I think her head could do with a little more flesh and muscle. Everything else about her is very bulky and big so it would probably look a bit more fitting with the body. Love the skeletal structure though, good job there .

your absolutely right! i always seem to make the head two sizes to small ^^
i'll be sure to fix that thanks for helping me, would u know anyone of noteworthiness who could help me with this wing joint, i know Hummingbird would of been my first person to ask but she's left DA :C

I'd definitely talk to Skysealer and SageGoat, they know what they're doing . You're welcome!

I worked a lot with Sardi/Skysealer on similar dilemmas and would be happy to work with you on this in notes or something. Happy to do redlines and such, just pressed for time at the moment. I have a very strong anatomical background, especially with birds!

i would really like that!
i know now that im probably going to have to put in a breast plate i think thats something to do with where the flight muscle join to, but i dont want to loose the shape i already have. dilemma

SageKorppi In reply to Teggy [2012-04-20 01:05:22 +0000 UTC]

It hink you can easily keep the shape and modify for flight

Oh WOW that looks stunning already!

Wing bone placement is always hard. A few artists i've seen around seem to pull off rather believable ideas. Always good to take a look:

But yes, I do find it hard to find good wing references for birds and bats. It's a shame.

thanks for the links ^^ joining wings to something that already has arms can be done, its like a puzzle

Thalbachin [2012-04-19 13:53:17 +0000 UTC]

Wouldn't they need a breast bone like a bird to attach the musculature of the wings?
Can't help with other things though :'D
Looks nice so far!

Looks nice, very similar to a horse's skeleton

Teggy In reply to Scura [2012-04-19 13:46:08 +0000 UTC]

they are based off horses to make this easier. i always pictured my Amethyndras as a sort of unicorn dragon, i basically made a list of everything i liked and combined them lol ^^

This was my old attempt at creating a skeleton structure of a creature with wings.

thank you for the link i did consider two shoulder blades but i'm still confused on how to place it... dilemma

Ziphora In reply to Teggy [2012-04-19 13:50:41 +0000 UTC]

It was an ordeal to try consider how to make the wings join, I will probably try draw a better, newer version and see what I can do. I like to think that because the wings are separate to the front legs you would assume that they have a different joint to the shoulder blade. Not sure, I wasn't that good at skeleton structures when I drew that, especially since it came from a sketch at school.

It is quite a dilemma.

I'd consider trying to merge bat and bird wing/limb joints honestly, I have no other real way I'd go about it other then to try merge a mix of things together to make it atleast realistic to a degree.
