[ Story chapter guide ]
📌 Just to remember that English is not my first language, if you find any really grotesque mistakes, let me know. But I hope the text is clear enough for everyone to understand and that everything makes sense.
Background was made using AI.
Aerin, Elurin, and Galadel arrived at the site where the fey's cart was stuck in the mud. The location was a desolate marshland with trees towering above them. The cart was a ramshackle, with wood planks nailed haphazardly together, and its wheels were buried deep in the mud. Aerin noticed that it carried some boxes covered with a tattered sheet, and it was difficult to see what was inside.
Galadel and Elurin tied the horses to a nearby tree. The two elves then began to assess the situation and saw that it was no easy task to get the cart out of the mire. They muttered and grunted under their breath, and Galadel whispered to Elurin, "Maybe we should have brought a few giants with us. This thing feels like it weighs more than a mountain."
Elurin wiped the sweat from his brow and replied, "I don't think even a giant could lift this thing, Galadel. We might need a few dragons to help us out."
The two elves shared a laugh and then returned their focus to the task at hand.
Meanwhile, Aerin waited with the horses and Erantheus. The fey was eccentric, with an unpredictable nature that kept Aerin on her toes. He was rummaging through his pockets and collecting insects while talking to Aerin, who couldn't help but feel a bit uneasy around him.
"You know," Erantheus said, "I've always been fascinated by insects. They are the little wonders of the world."
Aerin smiled nervously as she looked at Erantheus. She was not used to this type of behavior, but she tried to remain polite. "Do you collect them?" she asked, trying to steer the conversation away from the insects.
Erantheus grinned and pulled out a small jar filled with a few bugs. "Yes, I have quite the collection. They make such beautiful specimens," he said, admiring the insects in the jar.
Aerin's smile faltered slightly, and she looked away, feeling a bit uneasy. She couldn't wait for Galadel and Elurin to finish with the cart so they could be on their way.
Erantheus then suddenly inhaled deeply, and his expression changed. "Do you smell that?" he asked, looking around in confusion. "It's like a mix of wildflowers, a fresh forest, and the sea all at once."
Aerin looked around, but didn't notice anything out of the ordinary. "Smell what?" she asked nervously, wondering if the fey had picked up on something she couldn't.
"It's a magical scent..." Erantheus trailed off, inhaling deeply. As he stared back at Aerin, his expression suddenly became more curious. "You know… You have a bit of a resemblance to a nymph. Are you...by any chance...half-fey?" he asked suspiciously.
Aerin raised an eyebrow at the question. "I suppose you could say that," she replied, but didn't offer any more information about her origins.
Erantheus seemed intrigued by her answer. "Interesting," he said, scratching his chin. "And what brings a half-fey like you to be traveling with two elves?" he asked, his voice filled with curiosity.
"Oh, I'm just tagging along with them. We're old friends, you see," Aerin said, trying to sound nonchalant.
She hoped Erantheus would buy her story and not press the issue any further.
"What's your name?" Erantheus asked Aerin.
"Aerin," she replied hesitantly.
Erantheus then began to act a bit manic, pacing back and forth while muttering to himself. "Fey blood... half-fey... half-nymph?" His fingers moved quickly as if he were calculating or trying to figure something out.
As Aerin bent down to brush off a beetle that had landed on her pants, her braid shifted to the side, revealing a birthmark that resembled a rose. Erantheus noticed it and his expression changed to one of recognition. When Aerin straightened up, she was startled to find Erantheus standing very close to her, his wide smile looking more sinister than friendly. He seemed to have discovered something valuable but said nothing.
Aerin's nerves reached a breaking point and she felt desperate to get away. She almost screamed of relief when Galadel and Elurin approached, wiping their hands on their trousers after finishing with the cart.
"Finally," Galadel said with a chuckle. "That carriage of yours is heavier than a pack of dwarves."
"Let's get going then," Erantheus said, "we have a bit of a journey ahead of us before we reach Sariel's home."
________________________________
The three friends walked alongside Erantheus, pulling their horses by the reins as they followed the fey towards Sariel's home, which was situated by the river. Aerin kept her distance from the fey, wary of his unpredictable behavior.
Erantheus walked with a strange, disjointed gait, his movements almost like a marionette being pulled by invisible strings. There was something about him that made Aerin shiver, a certain sinister edge to his eccentricity.
Galadel and Elurin exchanged uneasy glances, clearly uncomfortable with the eccentric fae's behavior, but they kept their reservations to themselves.
As they walked, the path became increasingly rugged and overgrown, and the river's gentle murmur grew louder.
Finally, after what felt like hours, they spotted Sariel's home in the distance. It was a modest cottage, surrounded by a garden of wildflowers and herbs, with a small dock leading out into the river.
"That must be it," Galadel said, pointing towards the cottage. "Let's hurry before nightfall."
The group picked up their pace, eager to reach their destination before the sun set.
Galadel, Elurin, Aerin, and Erantheus arrived at the house where Sariel was tending the garden. As they approached, Erantheus hung back at a distance while the other three went forward to greet Sariel.
Sariel was tall and lean with his spindly fingers fidgeting at his sides. His pointed ears twitched as he looked at the group before him, and his entirely black eyes glinted in the sun. His pale gray skin was stretched tightly over sharp, angular features, including a strong jawline and high cheekbones. His long black hair, streaked with silver, was pulled back into a messy bun that looked as if it might come undone at any moment.
"Greetings, Sariel," Elurin said, his voice warm and friendly. "My name is Elurin, and these are my companions, Galadel and Aerin. We've come seeking your help."
"Welcome to my home," Sariel said to Elurin and the others, his tone polite but cold. "It's not often I receive visitors."
As Sariel caught sight of Erantheus, his irritation was palpable. “What is he doing here?" he asked sharply.
"He just needs a place to rest." Aerin explained.
Sariel seemed unyielding. "No. No. He is notorious for disturbing my carefully tended garden, digging holes and disturbing insects. I cannot allow it," he said firmly.
Elurin looked at Sariel with a serious expression. "We understand your concern, but he only wants to spend one night."
Aerin added, "Please, Sariel. "
Galadel chimed in, "And we can talk to him and make sure he doesn't cause any damage to your garden."
Sariel hesitated, weighing his options. "Very well," he finally relented, still clearly unhappy about the situation. "He may stay, but he must leave early in the morning and not disturb my garden in any way."
"Thank you," Elurin said, bowing respectfully. "We appreciate your generosity."
Galadel spoke up, his voice filled with gratitude. "Thank you for your kindness, Sariel. Might you happen to know of a place where we could rest for the night?"
Sariel thought for a moment before replying, "There's an inn in the village called The Golden Griffin. They offer rooms for travelers. It's not much, but it's comfortable enough."
Galadel nodded gratefully. "Could you also give us directions to the inn?"
Sariel agreed with a nod and replied, "Of course. Just follow the main street and take the second left. The inn should be on your right-hand side, with a golden griffin statue at the entrance."
Aerin smiled gratefully, "Thank you, Sariel!"
Sariel gave a small nod in response, his expression still somewhat reserved, before turning to tend to his garden once again."Safe travels to you all."
After bidding farewell to Sariel and Erantheus, the three friends set off for The Golden Griffin Inn, grateful for a place to rest for the night.
It took me a little longer than usual to post the continuation because...First, I didn't know how to illustrate this part. This happens because when I write, I don't think about it much and then when I go to make the image I don't know how to illustrate it. I found this old swamp among my "stuff". It wasn't quite what I wanted, but it served. But in the end I thought it wasn't very nice. And to top it off, Erantheus was weird. Okay, he's weird, but it didn't turn out good. So I decided to cut it all out and just leave Aerin kind of grimacing as she looks at the fey.
Second: I was working in Rohan.
Third: I was also making a simple image for Mother's Day.
But here it is. I try not to post a very long text, but sometimes I just can't. Sorry, but story is not just action. So there will be a lot of blah blah blah still. lol
If you've read this far, thank you SO much, means A LOT. ❤️
