Description
I played around with Tem’s proportions yet again. Here he has a longer torso, longer neck, shorter nose, thinner waist, a little more prominent tail, and his otter ears tend to stick out from his silhouette now. The main objective is just to keep “the look” he has, but not have him get mistaken for a dog. The challenge is that the big muzzle is how I’ve known him for so many years, so it’s hard to change that without him looking him like an imposter to me. Hopefully with more practice and knowledge I’ll figure something out.Related content

Even your character's evolving, I see. Isn't it frustrating not to be able to settle on a permanent design for your guys? I know that much because my own characters have steadily changed over the years I've had them. I still haven't decided on a permanent look for my gryphon OC Kitka, so I can feel your pain. If there's one thing that hasn't changed about Tem in all those iterations though, it's that innate ottery cuteness!

Awww thank you! And I guess it's one of those things that change as skill and influences change? Like, "oh, I can do this thing now!" Before I could not draw muzzles besides canine ones, but I've taught myself to do lots of other ones. Now, if I wanted to, I could make Tem look very otter-like in the face, but.... do I want to? As I mentioned above, I have an issue with changing his face because it just feels like an imposter impersonating him, and not the real him. He's just looked a certain way for so long. x)

You're very welcome! Don't change his face! I've sort of grown attached to that look myself, as crazy as it might sound! I like the more prominent tail, too. It just seems to fit an otter all too well to have a nice thick tail, considering how important a body part it is for them. It's actually how I always imagined the Redwall otters looking.
Incidentally, do you know what sort of shape I should start with to draw an otter-like muzzle? I'm still trying to get the hang of drawing my otter gal Merri too, and I feel like I've drawn hers pretty inconsistently. I want to go for a more rounded one cause I think it'd increase that cute factor for her.

Oh, this is nice. His face doesn't look so much like a canine's now, especially in third one. Maybe it's because the nose is less pointy. Or because the muzzle seems wider. In any case, this is good.

It could be that yeah - just needed more roundness/broadness to it, and be a smidge shorter. I'll figure it out!

Temiree #1: Oh no. Its that one small rat from before. And he's brought a big friend with him this time. They must want their money back because of those cheaply made staffs....
Temirre #2: *Sigh* I told you this would this never work. What we are suppose to do now?
Temiree #3 NO REFUNDS! All sales are final! Thats what you should say once they get here, and tell them to buy other Temiree staves in a convincing tone!

That's really amazing! When I saw it, I instantly thought how original it was for an otter character. And when you said in your comments you wanted him to not be mistaken as a dog, Welp, it definitely looks like an otter! :3.

I'll try to find a way to do both! And that was a big problem with this - I didn't want to lose his recognizable look too much. Going too far towards "ottery" makes it seem like an imposter instead of Temiree himself. x)

It actually does already look awesome, but if you reckon you can master his design even more, then that's even better X3! He's got a really creative design and species, by the way.

I think he looks good. The change in nose and tail I think really nail it, although I didn't think he's ever looked like a dog.

I think you did a good job at keeping "the look" while making Tem more "ottery". Particularly where his muzzle is concerned, it looks like you went for an in-between zone of making it shorter but its long enough so that it still resembles his old form. I still think his tail could stand to be a lot longer, but that's just me.
