About Matheo

Personality:

Matheo is a very smart lad. To the point of it being for the worst. He is an extremely fast learner. That's partially the reason why inexperienced handlers or riders are a no go for him. He will learn bad behaviors from them in an instant. Theo is not mean, but he will constantly push his boundaries and might do it in a very cuddly, bribing way at first. An hour later that ass might be sitting on your neck, dictating what you and him will do now.
Of Course he learns good things equally easy and fast. He loves to learn and perform tricks and basically any commands.
If he knows not to mess with you, he will be the sweetest and calmest creature around you.
But as any mule he is prone to be inheritedly mistrustful and won`t stop trying to think for himself in any situations, including dangerous ones. Sometimes for better sometimes - not so much.
He is a very brave and bold gentleman. He would rather fight than run. He will also turn into king of stubborness if he is unsure of your decision. It is almost impossible to force him to do something.
Theo is not a shy one at all. Brave and bold he`s much more on a curious side. He is calm and good around other horses and people. And generally does not even trying to be mean. But you better not escalate the situation to a conflict with him as he is more likely to charge and kick back then to run and submit.
That's why he needs experienced and patient handlers. If you be good and respectful to him, he will be good to you too.

Notes:

- May refuse to take treats from unknown people and act suspicious. Generally not very well motivated by treats and food. That was a point for concerns at first, before Keith figured out that this is just a part of his character.
- Very responsive to verbal cues and commands.
- Does not like to be saddled up
- Generally hard on mouth and better performs in bosal or halter. With bit in his mouth tends to yank reins on the galop and throw people over his neck.
- If he would lose his rider, will stop immediately. (probably a consequence of being taught to stand still if his reins are on the ground)
- Knows tons of tricks, including “sit” and “lay down”.

Strong points:

Absolutely mindbuggling stamina
Can run long and fast
Very cool about anything around him. Bombproof.
Smart, fast learner
Excelent for trail riding

Weak points:

Stubborn
May carry you into water and lay down there
Not your dressage talent, obviously
Easily get bored and lots of repetition of same things makes him dull and unresponsive
Will attack/kick rather than flee. Has a tendency to stomp snakes, might try to chase off other animals on trails.
Generally does not like dogs, might kick on them if they will show persistant aggression towards him. With calm ones he is still suspicious, but ok.
