Description
Alrighty, this here is MY personal Conan concept.I never understood the logic behind the loincloth. Most artists give him Scale mail, Big horned helmet and shield... But don't give him pants. It doesn't make sense for a warrior.
A lot of people point out that he's a "barbarian" Well, during roman time only "barbarians" wore pants... It just wasn't civilized.
Anyways, I wanted him to be less of the huge hulk most people draw him as and more of the Lithe late teenage warrior.
Got rid of most of the scars and bloodied him up. Also changed the background color.

They base it on the corematerial that RE Howard wrote. Not to say that the man couldΒ΄nt have worn pants. Loincloth is the only reference to what the cimmerians would wear. Closest to that are the picts and the Nordhemir. But they dress vastly different. Lots of people fought without their pants on. Just my thoughts, hope you donΒ΄t mind. Sorry if this is not the kind of critique you want. It is a great looking Conan you got there. Cheers!

Its not a bad idea although I recall he is described as a rather big fellow...also his skin tone was said to be unusual (I always suspected he had darker skin like from the middle east)
Nothing says though that he wasn't young and I know nothing says he was adverse to wearing pants so all in all cool picture. It's great to see people do their OWN thing rather than the same thing.

That skin tone would make no sense considering where he grew up. I would actually expect him to be rather pale as Cimmeria is said to be a gloomy, not sunny place. Dark Skin is primarily a factor or climate and the amount of sun, as more melanin protects the skin.
And to me he was large, but well-built. More of an athelete's body. Schwarzenegger had and most artists give him a body-builder's body, which is not natural.
In fact, everything says he was young. In the first(chronological) story he was 16

As far as the pants thing, i know what you mean--and I disagree with you, but you have to consider how the chacter was perceved by Robert E. Howard (the origanal creator), and that the "modern" stereotype of a barbaric figure is that of a hulking brute of a man in a loincloth. Also according Mr. Howard's own words: "giant of a man", Conan should poses a heavily musceled, herculean physic; but here he's more bean-stalk than giant.
Let me ask you this: If you had 50 gold coins to spent before you go into battle, would you spend all 50 just for a pair of pants, of spend 40 on need armor and use the rest to go winching?

Yeah, am with ya bro... But the Frazetta paintings of Conan, I don't care if they don't match reality, they are great!
Really good concept by the way

Well yeah, I can't fault Frazetta. The man is an art god!
Thanks

Well the loin cloth is part of his description generally referring to his youth or his early adulthood, as he wandered often and was probably equally destitute. Howard also draws a lot of paralells with native americans and Conan, too. Not to mention the berserker imagery.
I'm digging your stab at him, though. I do wish he looked more savage, especially if he's supposed to look younger.

Looks verygood albeit with that pose I'd have the blood on the sword slung or dripped mostly off by the time he gives that look.
