Ah, no, you are right! In fact, I would say you read images QUITE well ... this picture portrays the ending of the story, where the protagonist is old and nearly on his deathbed (he was a young boy in main plot of the story), and now, after he has lived his life happy and fulfilled, he's come to visit the little sapling he planted years ago after his quest was done... and now it is a huge tree, a tree of life again
