Yeah, I know what you mean but I use these folders everyday and it's a pain going into the Finder every 5 seconds.

No, it's not you it's the font. I used Silk to change the font to calibri, so it just looks smaller.

I did it with CandyBar somehow but I couldn't remember know. You can do it manually though.
Follow this path- System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Resources
Backup AliasBadgeIcon.icns file. Then rename to AliasBadgeIcon_OFF.icns
